Which avy beacon to buy?

Lookin to buy a new avy beacon and looking for some advice on which one to buy. Ive read the info on many of the ones out there but looking for people's personal experience. I want something accurate, easy to use and compact.

I like the Pieps DSP personally because it has the longest range and it's easy to use and highly accurate- but frankly most of the ones on the market today from reputable dealers are going to be fine. Personally I would avoid the Ortovox S-1 because it's got a bad rep for not holding up well to cold weather and the flip open design appears to be a weak point.

The most important thing is going to be that you practice with your beacon- whatever model you select- so that you can find a buried beacon very quickly and accurately. And that you wear it every time you ride.

I just got an ortovox 3 plus. I was really impressed by how easy it is to use. It is strait forward with very few buttons and using it for practice it finds the other beacon quick and guides right there. Don't know how well it will hold up, but I really like it so far. (i found a place on the web that rates all the different beacons.... kinda helpful,, and it got a 5 out of 5)

I'd recommend a digital beacon with 3 antennae.
BCA Tracker 2 - Easy to use for single burial, very fast response time
Pieps DSP Tour - Multiple burials are easier with this beacon as it has a "Mark Feature".
Ortovox 3+ - Similar to the Pieps DSP Tour. It also has a feature to switch the transmitting antenna depending on the orientation of the beacon when buried, which could help other beacons pick up your signal sooner if buried.
Mammut Barryvox Element - Similar to the Mammut Barryvox Pulse but without all the extra bells and whistles.

You can't go wrong with any of those 4 beacons.

Thanks to everyone that replied. Picked up a ortovox 3+ to replace my old BCA. We'll see how how I like it. Stay safe out there!!

I just took another avy 1 coarse a couple of weeks ago. There was a wide variety of makes and models of beacons there to try out. At the end of the coarse we all were sold on the tracker 2. Simple to use, good range, durable. Some of the other beacons with the lcd screens apparently will freeze and quite working when really cold.
