Which 223?

I am planning on purchasing a 223 soon. I want one with a thumbhole stock, preferably stainless barrel but dont mind blued. I really am a Browning fan but they only offer the m1000 in a 22-250 and up. Any recomondations?

Savage makes a really nice varmint gun in 223 and other cals model 12 has a lot of different options including stainless, heavy barrels, and thumbhole stocks i think.

^^^Yup! Or a T/C, either an Encore or an older Contender. Have an Encore with a 26" BBL in .223, tack driver, have a 16" BBL .223 on my Contender with a 2x6 pistol scope, shot as a pistol, and with a good rest and a steady hand, it will pick gophies off at 250+! The pistol is a ton of fun to carry in a shoulder holster on the dirtbike.

Also have a Rem. 700 VTR in .223, it's also a shooter, but not as versitile as the T/C's in swapping barrels.

Here is a 2nd vote for a T/C pistol with a long barrel. I used to have one with a 4 power scope. My friend that got me into it also reloaded. I could not miss with that set up. I wish I still had it. Had to sell due to medical bills.

A bit more info would help. You can never go wrong with a Rem. or Savage. If you are looking for the best bang for the buck I think it's hard to pass up a Howa 1500. The triggers kinda suck but that's a easy fix with a Timney replacement trigger.

If you don't already have a .223 then I would 100% go with the Howa. You will most likely never shoot the barrel out of it and you can get 223 rounds anywhere. If you reload, the 223 is one of if not the easiest to reload for. There is alot of different powders they like and lots of different bullet choices. The Howa you are looking at is most likely a 1-12 twist so you can go up to any 60 grainer pretty easy but I will bet it will shoot the 40's the best of anything. I have yet to see a Howa that wouldn't drive tacks with the 40's.

A 22-250 is a great hot rod. They are very accurate and popular too. I have had 2 and both shot great. Ammo is usually in good supply but not quite like a 223. 22-250's cost a bit more to shoot but will extend your range a bit. I've shot yotes up to 400yds with my 223 but I think that's pushing it a 22-250 is comfortable up to 600.

Again, if you don't already have a .223 this is a no brainer. The Howa it would be. I have 3 different .223's and they are my go to work horse guns. I easily shoot them more than ALL others combined.
