Where's The Hotel/Motel Security?

With all the thefts of sleds and trucks that are taking place from Hotel/Motel parking lots at snowmobile destinations I thought it would be interesting to hear from Hotel/Motel/Resort owners as to what they feel they could do better to ensure the security of trucks and sleds that belong to their patrons. I know that some places provide monitors for their parking lots, but I'm not staying up all night to watch the monitor for thieves. Why not security patrolled designated parking areas? Why not chain link compounds? Of course there would be a cost involved to provide such services but lets hear from sledders as to how much more, per night would you be willing cough up, if you knew your toys would be safe overnight? I'm putting out there that I personally would pay up to $50 a night more for secure, patrolled parking. Maybe it's time to start boycotting places that don't provide such a service. It wouldn't take long for all the owners to get on board if one place provided this service and others didn't. If they want our patronage, prove it. To me this is a "No Brainer" for Hotel/Motel/Resort operators to start providing such a service. What do you guys think?

I don't think the average rider does enough to protect their own stuff.

For a hotel/resort you can provide a patrol or security service but it adds a lot of additional cost and liability.

I work at a high end resort and we at one time at a camera at our swimming pool, our attorney saw that and said we needed to removed it ASAP. The reason? Because if someone drowns at the pool which has no lifeguard on duty and we have a camera there (ability to monitor realtime/live) we assume major responsibility. Pretty sad huh?

How many people here have an open trailer but still don't use any sort of lock on their sleds? I see it all the time and can say I am as guilty as the next guy. If you have an enclosed trailer you are much safer but I know there are some trailer alarms out there for <$200. How many have an alarm?

With that, it seems most thefts happen at storage areas or the owners house. I have not honestly hear of a lot of motel theft.

Liability issues for one and cost. What guard is really willing to protect some guy's belongings for 10 bucks an hour, late at night? Lock your trailer doors and if you don't have an enclosed trailer carry your riding gear in with you and lock the sleds to the trailer with one of those big cables from Home Depot. It may not stop the really determined but it will stop the ones who happen to walk by and say "hey, what if I..."

i'm pretty sure there's no "hey, what if I..." when it comes to stealing a sled, or a truck...it's not like you can just put one in your pocket, and run away with one, un-noticed! i think if a sled is going to get ripped off, it's usually a planned deal...the thieves will, in all likelihood have a set of bolt cutters, or a hacksaw, and a truck to haul away their take....think about it....you can't eliminate the chances of your stuff getting ripped off, but you can minimize the risk...park in well lit areas, where your stuff can be seen, get an immobilizer, or other anti-theft device for your truck, and a motion alarm...

There is where I live. Guys walk by, take a look see, go home and grab what they think they need to perform the heist. Not so much now but when I was younger, I knew guys whose spare parts came from visitor's trucks.

Most security systems and locks will deter the "Drive By Opportunists" but will not stop the serious thief. It seems as though every time I log onto a forum lately there's another post about a stolen sled/s and/or truck and trailer. I know a security guard is not going to try and stop a thief, by himself.....but at least he can alert authorities of what is taking place and give a description of the vehicle/s involved. If a potential thief knows someone is keeping an eye on his targeted sled and truck, my guess is he's not going anywhere near it. Think about it. You wanna steal something from a Hotel parking lot..... are you going to the lot with or without security guards?

I dated a girl that was the all night security at a hotel. He job mostly consisted of one walk around a night and making sure all the guests that went to the bar got back into the hotel. She spent most of her time watching TV and surfing the internet. I would not pay more for the room based on what I have seen and heard from the security people. JMO I have an open trailer and it does worry me what I might not find in the morning. So I lock it up and hope for the best.
