If you stay in town, I like the Stagecoach Motel. It is right downtown; 100 feet from a nice little restaurant with decent prices and great food. Two bars within a block. The owners are nice; rooms clean and well kept; and rates are reasonable. You can trailer the sleds to Union Pass (about 5 miles of steep gravel off the highway..about 20 minutes from the hotel). The folks at the Line Shack have always let me leave the trailer there overnight. Or you can trailer north about 15 miles to a parking area that meets the CD.
I have stayed up on Union Pass at both the Line Shack and Sawmill. The folks are nice. But it is more expensive. I also rented a privately owned cabin on Union Pass last year. It was a great cabin. Only problem with it was the gravel road had no snow (mid march) so we had to leave the sleds at the line shack and drive a mile. There are a fair number of private cabins for rent on the pass and for large groups, that may be the way to go.
I have also stayed at Lava Mountain Lodge, about 20 miles north of Dubois. Nice folks, decent rooms and a bar/restaurant with gas. Only trouble is the access to the CD from there is not always in the best shape grooming wise.
I really enjoy the area. If you go farther north, you wind up at Tog. The Union Pass area is not as deep as Tog, but the area is huge and not as crowded as Tog. I've always been able to find fresh powder to play in.
Hope this helps.
