I'm planning on taking a new rider out on Sunday, is Grand Lake worth riding at the current snow.conditions? Our other choices would be Snowies or least of all Vail Pass (which may not even be rideable?)
I was told by a good friend that Vail Pass is terrible. At least the trails are groomed once a week in Grand Lake. There is some fun to be had up high.
The trail from town to the trail system has been closed by the Park Service (we need more snow on the lower trails), but you can still ride from Idelglenn or any other staging area. You can also ride from 'On the Trail' rentals if you rent sleds from them.
Yeah we would ride out of Idleglen most likely anyway. Since we would probably stay on the trails for the most part, any suggestions for routes to take? I've only ridden a couple times there and didn't pay much attention to where we were.
I haven't ridden for a while now (working), but I'd imagine there's some snow out there that has not been torn-up, if you know where to look. It's certainly not melting, it's been close to
-30F the past three or for mornings in a row here in GL.
