Where to move in BC?

Hello

Me and my girlfriend have been thinking about moving to Canada / BC for a year or longer and I have some thoughts and questions that I might be able to get some help with from you guys.

Snowmobiling is my main interest, so I'm looking for a city or a town where there is close to good backcountry sleding. Have been buildning and riding a AC M8 turbo the past 2 years but I need bigger mountains ;)
The city or town should not be to small, maybe 20 000 people or more?
And of course we need to find something to work with. :)

She is a highly skilled hairdresser, with her own company.

I am a conveyorbelt technician and curently projekt leader for a major belt-change, 1100 meters under ground.
I have been working in the mining industry for 6 or 7 years now.

Do you guys have any idea or thoughts about where to move ( IF we do) and how good the chances are to get a job?

All help is appreciated!! :)

Thanks/

Tobias.

Squamish is a great town and is a short distance from Vancouver (for work if necessary). It is known as the outdoor capital of Canada and has everything and growing fast! IMO has some of the best riding in BC (Sea to Sky Corridor) within a very short distance. Riding season is from November to late June (although have ridden into August).

There are lots of other small towns in BC that has great sledding but I am not sure about the work scene. Prince George, Revelstoke, Sicamous etc.

I have been looking at Squamish, have a acquainted living there. Looks and sounds like a very nice place. :)

Prince George is abit far to north I think, however not as far norh I live now :)

How is Kelowna and Kamloop? not that far to Revy (for weekend riding) but not that great winters there?

But as you say, Squamish sounds like a good place.
thank u for the help :)

kelowna is a nice town, but not much work there and sledding options are limited. its a summer spot.

vernon is much better for sledding, given that enderby and sicamous aren't far away, but not sure about the work prospects.

kamloops has a big underground mine in development right now, and they are working on the conveyor system as we speak. http://www.newgold.com/Properties/default.aspx
revelstoke is a long drive for a day of riding, but barrierre, clearwater, the north shuswap, and sicamous are all within an hour and a half of driving, or less.

there is a lot more awesome sledding if you go to smaller towns or further north, but it sounds like that's out of the question.

East Kootenays seems to have the most mining stuff going on.....I think Elkford and Sparwood have some of the largest mines but they are pretty small towns for sure. That said, they aren't far from lots of good riding. I like it a lot more in the west kootenays in the Nelson area here (biased obviously). There are some smaller mining outfits around here....not hugely familiar with their goings-on. I think a company called anglo-swiss is restarting (or has already) some gold mines near Nelson. No idea how large of an operation it is.
