NW montana. its AWSOME UP HERE!! lots of secret places as its all treed, so hard to get around if you dont know where to go... bozeman is dang good as well, im just really partial to the close riding in the flathead valley!!! i drive max of 25 miles to go ride, usually more like 5-10

oh well, i get to ride in both all winter!!!

I live in Spokanistan now and the riding is pretty darn good around here. I lived in the Black Hills for a few years and liked it too but, I felt like I was on an island since virtually every direction you travel has vast nothingness for miles.

The thing I really did like about the Black Hills (and I assume the same for Colorado, Wyoming and Utah) was if it wasn't snowing it was sunny. Here in Washington and North Idaho it can be gray for long periods of time with no precipitation. That tends to get your spirits down after a while.

If I could pick a spot it would have to be on the west side of the divide because the wind coming down the east slopes are a bit too much for my tastes (I know, b!tch about gray and now b!tch about wind). I would think all of Utah, western Wyoming and western Montana ( I like the SW corner) and Idaho (I love central Idaho) or North Eastern Oregon would be awesome.

I also like riding in areas with at least some open areas. The ideal picture in my mind would be riding between snow covered mountains through Aspen groves in the sunshine with nothing to guide my path but the terrain. So, I guess Utah and Colorado really appeal to me with their dry powder and sunshine. Did I mention I like sunshine? :beer;

I do really like Bend. It's the place where it seems the loggers and hippies meet. A little "green" for my tastes but, what a spot! There are certainly interesting human interaction dynamics to watch there. :D

How about McCall? What a fine place!

Now you have me thinking about looking at annual snowfall depths and days of sunshine. Which makes me think of Chelan Washington with it's 300 days of sunshine a year and right at the foot of the Cascades.

I must stop myself................................ next thing I know I'll have the atlas out and be studying the subject myself.

Great Topic!

I used to live in Layton Utah myself and was planning a vote for there. Wish I was there right now, but oh well. But my western riding experience is limited compared to others of course being originally from MN.

We actually put an offer in on a house in Uintah about a year ago. We were pretty sure we were moving to that area. Luckily we didn't get that house cause we didn't get the job up there, course since we wouldn't have been able to pay the mortgage the gov't would have paid it for me.....

Couple things I did notice was more people in that area have sled trailers in their driveway then any other place I have ever seen, and the housing values are outstanding!

F-O man, I hate NW MT, stay away, you don't want to move up here, TRUST ME!:D

Thats funny coming from a person from Bend. I used to LOVE Bend until it got over-ran by Californians and yuppies (and ****in round a bouts);)

Rt

That is funny! I have lived in Bend here for over 11 years now and seen it grow into mostly Californians and tree hugging yuppies. It gets worse every year with all the granola's running around, but I still love it here for all the outdoor fun winter and summer. I just wear my "Trees are for traction" shirt to piss them all off!

Bozeman for sure! Too much to list of all of the great riding around there.

But to be honest, any place that you can see the mountains would work for me.

Lower 48. Dixie Idaho, not too far from McCall. Airport is a little rough but do-able. As for people, well only about 20-30 in the winter. Cheap living, cheap beer.

never been anywhere but north ID and MT

but from the pics I've seen it would be by Baker for the insane long season....but that involves western WA

So I'd say Utah....trees, open, and the summer fun looks good too!

I got it all figured out. I am from the foothills of Idaho Falls I can ride from my parents backyard and do that everytime I go home to see them (atleast once a month) and I live in Colorado springs. This last spring i was flying up to I.F. on the weekends to sled and racing motocross on wendsday nights. I love my set up just sucks that all the sledding where I live is a few hour drive away. Both cities have airports and I can usually fly up there for a weekend under 200 thats if I book airfare a month ahead of time.

"Where to live?" For me this means earning a living near where you ride. For me now this is Klamath Falls, OR. Good riding in 45 minutes, great riding in 1.5 hours.
