Where to live in Denver area????

I live in Lakewood. EASY access to the mtns. Near Belmar where there are a lot of hot chicks. Close enough to the city but far enough out. Housing prices are not as affordable as Greeley but cheaper than Denver. I bought a house a year ago and split the house and rented it to a fellow rider, which made it affordable for me.
There is your answer!!! Lakewood!!

Wheatridge and Golden also good options.

With that price range you will have to compromise or get very lucky

Thanks again guys I'll start looking in the areas mentioned.

X- I'm not sure yet on the when or even if for sure. I've gotta get the job first but since it's under the same Manager as i currently am and when I talked to him about the idea he got all excited and happy that I was interested. I would say I've got it 98% sewed up but not going to count my chickens before they hatch heck I haven't even formally thrown my hat in the ring yet. If I do get it I'll be looking in the end of July to early Aug.

Our relocation program forces us to use "approved realtors" in order to get all the benefits of the program like the closing costs paid and loss on sale coverage (and many others) so I'll have to use one of them.

I'm not too hung up on a really nice place to start with as I'm not afraid to put a little sweat into it, I'm more concerned with location and the neihborhood in general.

Also I should note that our relocation program has room for a 25K loss on sale, plus if you list it for 30 days and can't sell it they will buy it for an average value of 3 appraisals. Under the conditions of this I cannot buy a duplex or condo/townhome and wouldn't anyway. So if I wind up moving in a year it's not likely that I'll loose much. To say the least I'm not really looking for an investment if it's there then yes but not a primary issue. There's only 2 reasons I am even bothering with buying rather than renting is income taxes and the relocation package with the company I work for is much more lucrative when you buy than rent.

Also depending on the raise that's included with the job, how I do on my current house, and from what I see of property taxes in the area I think I might be able to raise the 150 K to around 175-190.

Suggestion.
If you get the job, get a buyers agent.
They can aim you at the houses you like and you won't have to do the leg work yourself.

I've seen that site before. It said my house was worth 168k, I sold it a month ago for $190k in 4 days. There was 5-6 houses in my neighborhood that sold for $180k-$199k in the previous 6 months before I listed mine. House values showed $160k-$220k on zillow.com within 2-3 blks of me.

Not sure how they get their info.

EDIT: Now my old house shows $215 and the one I just bought for $265 shows $328...

That's true but it's still a big step up from Ft. Worth and a stepping stone to getting back to Brainerd. It will be cool to be able to go Mtn Riding nearly every weekend though:D and Elk hunting in the fall.

Ollie - the only stipulation is I need to live within 100 miles of the Airport so I'm pretty open. (company vehicles and gas are a great thing!!) Also the majority of the work travel will be driving up into the Coal areas of the Powder river basin between Denver, Gillete, and Alliance, NE. The reason for denver is it's central location on our system as to allow for more driving than air travel but still being near a major airport for winter travel to areas that aren't frozen.

With you saying that you could live in Summit county. 100 miles is a long ways. I would look in the Brighton, Frederick, Dacono, Milliken, Longmont, Loveland and even Fort Collins area's. If your travel will be mostly North into Wyoming, I would live NORTH of Denver.

That's kinda the plan (north) but I would also be going back to headquarters here in Ft. Worth on a fairly regular basis too but that would mostly be flying except for longer periods of time I would drive to cut costs.

Loveland airport has jump flights to DIA as well as some longer flights.
From greeley, johnstown, mead, berthoud and milliken areas it is about a 45 minute drive to DIA.

Aurora. I-225 and Colfax, nice. :D

LMAO you kidding right?

I just drove through that area about an hour ago and man what a dump! Do you ***gin people ever cut your grass? And most people like to have matching shingles on there houses.

If I were to move out here I would want to live in Centennial or Evergreen or Golden.
