Where to go from Grand Lake

We got a group of guys heading out the end of next week. We have all only been sledding in Wyoming before, never Colorado. We are staying in Grand Lake, wondering the best places to park and ride from or where to ride. We are all relatively experienced mountain riders so we don't like to stick to the trails too long if we can avoid them. Any info helps Thanks

You can ride right from town or trailer to Idleglen parking lot. The trails are well marked with a lot of places to jump off and play. I am sure glmtnapex on here will have some good info for you.

All above is correct.

Grand Lake has a reputation as a well groomed trail area with a big rental fleet with some semi-challenging hill climbs on Gravel Mountain and Super Chicken. This is correct as well.

But Grand Lake also has plenty of hidden off-trail challenges if you are adventurous enough to find them. In addition, we have some incredible snow right now, as does the entire state of Colorado. Grand Lake is not Rabbit Ears. The trees are tight and hide their secrets well here. Those who are patient and brave shall be rewarded. Fortune favors the Bold!

Stay at Gateway Inn, hang out at bar at night with locals, befriend locals, buy said locals beer, and finally ask them to point out on a map all of the sweet secret spots that make up for the trail riding to get there.

Please note that last poster's answer didn't provide any specifics. I sometimes think that this sport/hobby is worse than fishing as fishermen hardly share their secret spots either.

Half the fun is finding the 'sweet spots' on you own, then they become 'your sweet spots'. In my opinion.
