I really like the Big Moose. They have some really nice cabins which have kitchens. The price always seemed real good. They have two newer cabins that are joined together and that would probably be perfect for your group. The Big Moose is located 3 or 4 miles to the east of Cooke, it was always nice to stay there because it was quiet at night. Bev and Todd are really nice people. March should be a great time to go, especially with the way it is snowing this season. You will probably have the place to yourself.

ya i was thinking about Cooke City Sinclare or the big moose. if we had the place to ourselves that would be awsome! lol cant wait till we go!

The big moose is nice. Bev and Todd keep a nice place and its quiet. There are several quality options in Cooke. Id just make sure you stay with someone who cares about the town and cares about the sport of snowmobiling. It wouldnt hurt to stay with people who actually use the backcountry as well. These are the folks who can give you the best help and most accurate information.

where to stay

The Super 8 is new and very nice. Bearclaw Bob and Mrs. Bearclaw are great people and will take care of you. They have a store/ bakery next to the motel and know the area quite well.

sweet thanks guys! would be nice to get some advice on where to go. so how is the snow around then??

the snow can be very good even then. march definitely does not have to mean spring riding. It just all depends on your luck really. If its more springish then youll be exploring more. If its deep then youll be having the time of your lives ;)

All seasons cabin

we just got back a week ago. we rented the ALL SEASONS CABIN and it was AWESOME!!!! The owners are VERY friendly and helpful. The cabin was very nice also....big screen tv, hot tub, full kitchen...we had a group of 6

well looks like we might be goin down around the 10th then. either way it should be a blast! but powder would be sweet!

Alpine Inn

The Alpine is great. The magagement is very fair and easy to schedule your trip with. Stayed there for many years.

I stayed at Antlers for a week and felt ripped off when we left-sparse hohum cabins with alot of traffic and noise-

As for the March snow - Two years ago (maybe 3) I was out in mid-March. It snow a pile the day we got to town. Outstanding riding.

Last year I was out again in mid- March. It was hard pack spring riding at it's best. Rode in our t-shirts. Just depends on what the clouds do that time of year.

Last year I stayed at the Alpine. Very nice place! While we were in Cooke, we did have the chance to check out the rooms at the Antlers, and imo, Alpines rooms were much nicer.

This will be the fourth year that our group goes in March. The really nice thing is that it's usually not very busy, but the snow is really a crap shoot. As mentioned above, the snow in mid March last year was really packed down, and it was very warm. Two years ago there was no fresh snow, but at least there was no melt. Three years ago was pretty decent. I think that this year we're due for the mid-March blizzard. :)

As for places to stay, the Cooke City Sinclair is a great place to stay, Steve and Becky are extremely good to the snowmobilers, and the town. If you have 7 people though, that might be a bit tight. I hear good things about the Alpine as well, although I've not stayed there yet.

if it continues anything like this year we will be having that mid march blizzard. Today was yet another DEEEEEP powder day.
