Where did you wiring in your GPS? '09-10

Im assuming that the 09 and 10 sleds have the same electronics, please correct me if I am wrong. I'd like to know where you wired in your GPS, and if you needed to do anything to clean the power?

Thanks in advance.

On the '09 and '10 there is a finned aluminum box above the right hand side "wheel well" inside the tub, this is the voltage regulator, and is the same part number on the 09 and 10. Coming from the regulator there are three wires, once of which is red with blue trace. My old man tapped into this wire on his '09 HCR for his GPS power and has been running fine like this for a year. I tapped into mine today on my '10 M8 Snopro but forgot to test it before I put the cover on for tomorrows ride. I'll let ya know tomorrow night if I'll be buying a new GPS. :p

OK, I couldn't stand it, I had to go test it out.

I measured 14.72 volts DC max while running the engine from idle to just below clutch engagement. The voltage at idle was about 14.5 IIRC then slowly increased to 14.7 about half way to engagement, then plateaued at 14.72 all the way to engagement. I then plugged in my GPS and turned it on. No problems. I'll report back tomorrow after running a tank of gas through it with the GPS on, that should give us a pretty good idea if the power is clean or not since I don't have an o-scope.

Here are a couple pics of the install.

This is where I tapped in. I cut the wire, slid on some adhesive lined heat shrink tubing on, and soldered everything back together, and shrunk the tubing on.

I soldered in this little two prong connector in case I ever wanted to plug in something other than my GPS. You can get them at Radio Shack, I have the part number, but I'll have to post it later. The red wire goes to the splice I spoke of in the previous post, and the black goes to ground under the bolt that holds the hood support cable. It could go anywhere thats a good ground but this was close and convenient.

I ran the wire inside some flex loom under the heat shield and alongside the engine, under the coolant hose, and up under the close out panel. On the close out panel I mounted a female 12v accessory port from Radio Shack (I have the part number for this as well, just gotta find it). The red wire goes to the center terminal, the black to the outer terminal. You can solder the wires directly to the terminals but I chose to crimp on some spade connectors. I then covered the entire assembly with some heat shield material I had laying around, but with a stock pipe I doubt I need it. Now tape up and wire tire everything to keep it from vibrating and loosening all your connections or breaking your solder joints.

The last thing to do is route your accessory cable from your gps down the steering column to the 12v acc port and secure it so it wont vibrate loose. A bit of tape or a couple zip ties should be all you need.

do you have a pic of the cig plug on the out side of the sled? Cant tell from the pics but it looks like you mounted it under the hood??????

Yes, its under the hood, on the closeout panel, under the goggle bag. You can see it in pic two, post #6. Its under the insulation wrap I talked about.

In the past I have tried installing them on the outside of the sled, mainly in the hood/gage area and on the dash next to the ignition switch, but I always have trouble with the accessory becoming dislodged. Putting it in the engine compartment works great.

Well, I went for a ride today, GPS still works fine. I'm going to call this clean power, good to go.

BTW, if a mod reads this, could they please fix the spelling in the title. Should be wire, not wiring. Thank you.
