When to replace hifax?

I have 2011 800 PRO RMK 163" and wanted to find out how to tell when you need to replace the hifax's? Its been a while since i owned a sled so any information would be greatly appreciated. Also where is the best place to get em?

Thanks,
House

When it is wore out. It shouldn't be there yet on your 2011 unless you ride a lot of trails w/o your scratchers. Loosen your track and check out the plastic. See if it is melted or coming off. You don't want it to be paper thin because it will fold up on you in reverse.

Thanks for the info. I took a look at it through the track windows from underneath and i still see white plastic and no rail through it. I do see a bit of what looks to be black smudges but i would imagine thats from track rub?

There is an extruded line in the hyfax you can see from the side. If the wear is to this line, then the hyfax needs replacement. Usually you'll get wavy wear and the deepest wear will be just aft of a bogie wheel.

Look at them from the side. Measure the depth of the plastic at the front of the rail... that portion of the hyfax will wear the least. Then find a few of your lowest parts and measure there. If the low points are about 60% of what the tall depth is, replace them. Don't ever allow them to get down to the rail. It will damage the rail and track... both are expensive. Buy from your dealer or a parts book like WPS or Parts Unlimited.

Thanks all! One last question about the extruded line. I see this about half way down the hifax...should this line be visible all the way from the front to back or is it just seen from the middle of the hifax to the end?

You should see it all the way down the hifax, but it might be to the line already. Like others have said, it will not wear the same. If you stop by a dealer and look at some, you will see the line they are talking about.

I asked the service manager at my local dealer the same question a few years back. I was told of the wear line on the edge of the hifax and also told to use a 12mm wrench as a go no go gauge. Try it at verious spots along the hifax if it slips over the side the hifax, it is time to replace them, if not, you are good to go. :plane:

my 2 cents
