whats wrong with these pictures?

The motor ran great all day untill i got the the bottom (1500 feet) and it was running like it was in cruise control i would not even be on the throttle and it would be reving at 5000 untill i pushed the throttle quickly or put on the brakes.

Check the carb boots, doo had a huge problem with them. They would delaminate and cause air leaks and allow the engine to run lean.

the y-pipe bolts were a little loose which caused oil to leak through the gaskets. Would this cause it to run wierd though? also would it cause the cylinders to be lightly scarred all the way around? It seems that my head is really dark in colour as well is that cause i was running to rich? or is that something else

If it revs high on its own then you have an air leak some where causing the motor to run lean. Did you check the ring end gap clearance when you built the motor? Did you clean the jugs with M. acid to remove the crap left over from hoaning? Alot of factors could have caused this but the most important is the y-pipe bolts being loose, carb boots( trash the stock ones and get some boyseen and don't dare get v-force they rip as well), and RAVE valve gaskets. Those are the main things that cause a lean issue but it could also be a carb or fuel issue as well. If you rebuilt the entire motor you could have a leak between the cases, another spot is the mounting holes for the stator pickups, they go straight into the bottom end and require sealant when installed.

Hope my rambling helps a little

AKtoad,
1. I gapped the rings properly
2. no i didn't use acid after honning...**** is that a big problem? i am about to build my other motor so should i do that to the other one?
3. Reed boots are good
4. RAVE gasket good
5. Mounting holes for the stator pickup need sealant??? i didn't do that? Do you have a diagram to show me exactly where these are. I am really bad with terminolagy I no what everything does for the most part but don't no the names for every part.

I have the motor out of the sled right now cause i hit a tree and bent my bulkhead so now is the time to get all these problems worked out

Thanks for all the help

I would clean up the jugs, and I dont have a diagram of the stator but when you pull the recoil of you can see the flywheel you will also see a small cube with wires coming out of it just on the outside perimeter of the flywheel this little box is the pick for the stator it is held in by two torx head bolts. Those bolts need sealant.

just one more thing you may want to check while you have engine apart! you may have a very small , hairline crack in the head! i have seen it ! you will want to put some die on it to test! it will cause the motor to suck air and idle up!
