Whats wrong with explorer kits or should I say what makes the other kits better?

It almost seems like they fell off the face of the earth. Nobody has posted anything about them in a long time. I have one and have only ridden it 5-10 times but I was wondering how are these other kits better? Are they lighter? Less rolling resistence? Better track angle? What? I have never ridden anyother snowbike kits and was wondering how the comparison is from someone who has compared.

Just ride with somebody who has a MH kit, that should clear everything up for you.

That doesn't help me any. I would like to ride with someone who has one but there is nobody around here (northern cali) who has one. (Hint to possible dealers) My plan for next year is a new ktm 500 and a mt horse and this will become my buddy ride. Since I own it already-how can I mod it to work better and maybe fix some shortcomings.

mt tamer

Because timbersled has the ability to use their rear skid (the proven, mountain tamer) the mountainhorse kit transfers and gets on top of the snow instead of plowing through it. The simplicity and versatility are unmached and the performance isnt even in the same category as the explorer imo.

Dont do that you'll be very sorry. I have lots of hrs on both the explorer and two moto. The explorer works great on trails, in fact probably better than all of the kits,The twin axes ski setup works very well, But who rides the trails?. with no approach angle the explorer gets stuck pretty easily. There is also virtually no rear suspension, hit a bump at speed and its over the bars.
I dont think your going top be able to have fun on a MH next to a explorer.:sorry:

Jmo

Yes the Mh is way better than an explorer kit in steep and deep because of design. I have had a lot of fun on explorer that's for sure. I did come up with a simple way to reduce some rolling resistance on the explorer drive so if you want that info call me.
So saying all this I will add that we just got 2 more explorer kits to fleet just to have more options to play with

J&L has more experience with the explorer than I do, so if he can ride with a MH that should be considered. and you can pick them up cheap.
We always had a great time with the older kits.

Darryl ur a good guy. I still remember riding w u in lolo HF 2009 on 2moto and u crashing cuz of that crap ski. I don't imagine an explorer kit running w a MH but they can be a riot that's for sure.
Everyone should get there crap together and come to hawkfest we could truly rule that city w one skis !!!

C THRU U, where in Northern CA are you from? I grew up in Redding, I live in Alaska now but I will be back in a couple years. Just curious where people are riding up there...

I'm in Redding also. The closest place to ride is either Ashpan just past eskimo hill and on the north side of lassen park or if you want to ride totally by yourself you can go west up to Buckhorn summit and go all the way to bully shoop area. You would probably be the only sled around up that way but both of these are at lower elevations. Of course there are areas up by Mt Shasta where you can get up higher in elevation. Either the old ski bowel on shasta or west around Mt Eddy. Lots of good riding there. Several other places as well.

Ok yeah that is what I figured, I would love to go do some riding up there at the snowmobile recreation area up by Mt. Shasta, its off HWY 89 about 10 miles from McCloud. For now though I will just enjoy all Alaska has to offer and I will look you up when I get back home. Have a good season.
