whats ur fuel mileage pulling a 24' enclosed

This truck gets consistantly 17 to 20 mpg emty I was just thinking that a drop of 8 to 11 mpg was a bit rediculous would a chip help the mpg any, and would it be worth it for the money the chip costs. Lastly if a chip is worth the money for the fuel economy what chip would you guys recommend thanks

Yes a chip will definitly make a difference, probably about 3-5 mpg difference, depending on the tune. As far as if its worth the money, that depends too. You are looking at $600-$800 for a tuner like Edge, PPE, Banks, ect. EFI Live will run you more around $1000-$1100 to buy the full system, but there are a lot of guys out there now offering a custom EFI Live tune specifically made for your wants/needs for just a couple hundred bucks. Also, are you running stock exhaust on that LMM?

05' Dodge Cummins chipped, towing a 26 ft. enclosed with 4 sleds. At 75 mph gets 13 mpg, 65 mph gets 16 mpg. Pefectly happy with it.

3~5 mpg diffrence? if your getting 10 and you add 3 that a 33% increase add 5 and that a 50% increase, not going to happen but maybe on the lie-o-meter, the feel good o meter, but on paper...more like 1~2 MPG better at the very best.

wind is not going to be your friend here going to pinedale wy one way pulling 29' wells cargo fun wagon 5 sleds 4 guys ..15ish ...return trip 10ish
03 ram 3500 srw short bed twin turbo auto
chiped......and lots of scratches too! smarty programmer and tst powermax fueling module

i have a superchips programmer, i get a 0% increase in fuel mileage, yes i said 0%, but the performance is better.
ive tried every way of driving, ie. granny style, ricky bobby style and even civilized safe driver style. i still get a consistent 0% increase in fuel mileage over stock:beer;

05 PS 6.0 Towing my 22' enclosed loaded w/supplies @ 70-73mph I will get on average 11-12. Headwind its in the 10s.

Ran from Columbia Falls to Idaho falls. My buddy ran my 07 duramax using the manual and ran between 60 to 65 keeping the rpm's at about 2,000 to 2200. The computer recorded 13 mpg for the trip. I ran it back home between 80 to 90 most of the way and it recorded 9.8 mpg. When you figure how your rig likes to pull you can usually squeek a few more mpg's out of it.

Could you guys and gals give me an idea of what your fuel economy is pulling a bigger enclosed trailer. I just got back from the snowies and pulling a 24' enclosed trailer behind my 09 duramax I was only able to get 9 miles to the gallon that is rediculous. I was able to get 12-13 last yr with same truck and same trailer.

2005 Chevrolet 2500HD, 8.1L/Allison ..... I just averaged 9.5 mpg pulling a 26' Charmac low-boy enclosed with 3 sleds in it + gear and 3 people.

I think your D-max has a problem if you saw that big of mileage hit ... Unless you were towing it in wind :)

Sorry, I should have specified...I saw a good 3 MPG increase (hand calculated) running empty when I started using EFI Live, but I also straight-piped my truck with 5" from the turbo back at the same time that I added the EFI Live. Getting rid of the DPF and Cat makes a HUGE difference on these new LMM's. Not sure of the difference in MPG's it made pulling because I bought my 23' V-nose after the mods. I am also rolling on a 12" lift and 37s.

4 dirt bikes in the bed plus gear and gas pullin a 24 foot RV from boise to st anthony at 70-75 it got 9-10 MPG. it wont hold overdrive with that much weight so its screamin down the road at 3700 or so RPM.

mpg

I pull an interstate car hauler, 28ft. with 4 sleds with extra gas and all the gear for the family. Approx. 7800 pounds with a 06 Duramax dullie which weighs much more than a 3/4 ton and i average 10 MPG. Could do better but i drive 75 everywhere, including parleys canyon out of slc. Have Banks programer which improved my overall MPG by about 1 mpg but the towing ability and power went through the roof! I average 8 when i pull my 17000# 5th wheel.

I actually owned two 05' Hemi's. We averaged about 7-8 pulling with them.........I once got 5 ****IN MPH pulling my 5000lb travel trailer back from Vegas in a head wind, so with them it can vary alot.

5000 lbs isn't too heavy, My enclosed empty is 4500 lbs. You'd get about 5 pulling it with a gasser.

Greetings redbarchetta,

That is odd you would think the second season driving your '09 you would see slightly better fuel economy or at least the same.

Did your trailer haul the same amount of weight this year as last year?
Did you put taller tires on your truck?
Have you stop by Mr. Goodwrench to have them check for trouble codes?

Craig.

Same trailer, same sleds, same tires, and It will be going to the chevy garage as soon as I get the truck to my local dealer, I don't believe it is showing any trouble codes the check engine light has never been on, guess we will see.

Mpg

I've been moaning about my milage until I read this post. Got an 08 Dodge Dually with the Big C and get about what everyone else is getting-9 worst 13 best. I pull a 24' Halmark and cuming from Mt to Ak with my 53 Chev PU, Harley, and misc. gear the worst was 9 and that was with a honkin headwind north of Calgary. The best I've got is 15 and that was with a tailwind heading south in Idaho. Lots of mods on the table as I write-installed a 5" tbe; propane inj.; Banks CAI; WWC intake horn; Fitch fuel cat.; XRT programer, but have yet to fire it off. Hopefully better milage and should rip the hitch off. If I can't have milage have grunt.

And in other news, I just averaged a whopping 7.1 MPG!!!!! pulling a 16' enclosed trailer from Cheyenne to Casper to Saratoga in that wonderful Wyoming Wind!:eek::eek::o

ouch i dont think ive ever seen my mpg's that low even pulling my 18k tripple axle toy haullin 5'er.

i was going through lovely wy with my 5er up to south d and it was so windy that i had to slow down to about 60 to keep the egt's at 1300.....with twin turbos!!! the semi's had all but pulled over. then some dumb azz with a little smaller camper trailer and d-max go flyin by and just rollin coal out the rear pipe......ten miles or so up the road the d-max was on the side of the road with the hood on fire! guess he should have bought some gauges with that programmer.

that stretch of road the mpg's were probably ugly....wind is not friend pulling a sail.
