What's the voltage supposed to be?

Stator output

Hi Ski,

I tossed an o'scope on my stator output leads and took a look. I now see why they don't give a voltage spec. The output is ugly - a sketch is attached (my camera couldn't pick up the scope screen). Interestingly, it looks pretty similar to the orange wires that go to the ECU.

On this type of signal there will be a lot of variability in the reading depending on the specific voltmeter that is used (how it's electronics interpret the signal). If you used the same voltmeter on a couple different sleds you could probably get consistent readings.

My sled is an 09 D8 with 850 miles and the 'old' VR. So far it runs spot-on (knock on wood).

In order to read stator output properly you nead a peak voltage adaptor, a basic meter reads RMS volts and that is no indication of the actual output on a sled, the reason polaris no longer gives values is simply that most techs have 0 access to a peak voltage adaptor. Anyone who works at a KTM dealer and has the full tool setup has an awesome peak voltage adaptor. LeftField if you tested the stator with no connection on it the wave should be sinusiodal, you drew a clipped wave so there is something in the circuit causing a regulating effect.
