What's the easiest way to trim 1/8" off Mountain Track paddles?

I am putting a 153" Maverick 2 1/4" under a Mountain Max.

I pressed Nytro MTX drivers on the Mountain Max shaft and put the Maverick up in the tunnel and the very tips of the track rubs the top of the tunnel and the fins on the front heat exchanger. I was going to sand the fins off the heat exchanger until I saw it hitting on top of the tunnel.

What's the easist way to trim about 1/8" off the tips of a Maverick?

By the way, I am installing it backwards since it is used and the paddles are bent over a bit.

Any guidance you can provide would be appreicated.

there was a video on youtube, the guy took a metal pipe and cut it in half then put them arround the lugs like (|) so the parenthases are the pipe and the line is the lug. He sharpened the back end of a jig saw blade and used that to cut it, it cut real easy like butter... i'll try and find the video...

I have to say the redneck solution completely cracked me up!

I love the video. Now if I only had a sawsall. I bet my neighbor has one.

The track is a Maverick so there is a round "finger" in the middle of the lugs, that complicates things but I'll get er dun!

Thanks

I built a guide out of a 2 1/4" peioce of angle iron, then used a good sharp exactoknife to cut mine down from 2.5- about 2.3 ish. worked really good, took about 1/2 hour.

Angle Iron, WD-40 and the Electric Knife!

It sounds like the name of Redneck band.

Wow! That's WAY cheaper than a Sawsall (although I still want one).

In fact my wife tells me we have several "old" ones in the basement I can use.

Who knows, with a Maverick that tends to bend over anyway, maybe trimming off a bit will help the bending over problem?

Thanks for the great ideas.

I just put a 153 from a nytro in my mm700. I layed the sled on its side and used a good razor knife, as long as the blade is sharp it cuts very easy. I changed the blades often. It took about 40 min to do the entire track and it looks great.

350XRYDER, thanks for the tip.

I sent you a PM the other day. I really would love to talk to you about you Nytro skid on the MM setup.

The very quickest and easiest way is to use a good set of tin snips. I like to use a right hand set... on account'a i'm right handed

tire groover.

I will 2nd that a guy in our group uses one on almost all his tracks he don't like the little nubs on his tracks i guess
But after he cuts the lugs down ~1/8th inch that sled really throws the snow chunks:(

Do a burnout in the parking lot at Save on foods for about 200 yards. Always trims the fat off the rubber.....

You use a tire re-grooving tool. My brother found one at an auction sale and it works great. The tool looks like a soldering iron with a U-shaped blade and a depth guide. Plug it in and it will melt/cut your lugs all consistantly. Just did a 144" 2.5 lug. cut down to 2" lug in about 20-30 minutes. looks pro. I guess you could contact a tire retreading company and ask where they get there tool from. This tool looks antique, but it does plug in.
