Personally, I'm not a fan of high rpm to make power out of a twin 2 stroke. Especially in the mountains. The new HO runs 8200 to 8500 rpm. Give me a triple for those rpm please.
When Cat went to the HO motor I wished for my ported with the great SLP pipe, '09back. More power at 250-300 rpm less.
Clutching loses efficiency exponentially with rpm. The curve gets steep right around 7950 to 8000 r's.
I like the electronic ex valves. About time. The other 2 get to use the 3 stepping to add torque with free flowing exhaust too. The electric oil pump is the future but I want more so I'll wait until I know how to adjust. Personal thing until they reinvent a 2 stroke.
I've not seen the port configuration yet. Did they spread the C to C of the cylinders?
My favourite mountain motor of all time was the Cat 900 (862cc) . Needed help for dependability but over a 100 ftlbs of torque from 5000 to 7500 rpm made it produce no matter what the RAD gauge says lol. Clutch it for 7200-7300rpm and away we go all day long over 4000' of elevation change. With old school technology it was about 11 lbs heavier than the CFI.
Hope Poo builds something like that.
I couldn't agree with you more. I ran an '06 900 RMK 159 for six seasons. First year, it had serious clutching/belt issues, but I got that sorted out. Second year, I did the SLP pipe and reflash (plus took over 60 lbs. off the sled). That sled was making over 170 hp and 115 ft/lbs torque at 7,600 rpm. It would pull over 54 mph track speed, regardless of snow conditions. That engine was an absolute, low rpm torque monster ! I love my Pro, but really miss the shoulder wrenching torque of my 9. I want that engine in my Pro !!!
