Closed to what? I hope not just sledders is it road bans? Is it active logging closures? a person shouldn't be on those roads without a vhf anyways its like playing russian roulette ? can you post a link portgrinder.

Here's some info on this Bill 30.....it's just another example of the government taking control of publicly owned forest roads. They will all be deactivated or gated and re-designated as resource roads. All bridges and culverts will be removed so guess how safe that road will be?? No more heading out to the backcountry on roads we used to take for granted to fish, hunt, camp, sled or ATV. This is such a crock.

Actually the way I understand what I just read is the government is looking to unload the responsibility (liability, maintenance, control etc.) to private sector groups - like the Golden Snowmobile Club etc. For example, to keep the Quartz Creek access road 'as is' if this bill is passed the GSC will have to enter into a management agreement or whatever they choose to call it to 'adopt' this road from BC's Ministry of Forests. The GSC would be responsible for all upkeep and maintenance of the road, as long as these terms are met then the road stays as is. If a road is not adopted by a private sector club or organization etc. then it would be deactivated, because the MOF wants to wash their hands of the responsibility and cost implications of keeping these roads open for recreational use.

I just skimmed over the bill quickly, but that's the way it reads to me.

I can see their intent, but it still sucks.

I wonder where the $ is going to come from for the gov to "disable the 100's of roads" as far as can tell they don't do any maintenance on the roads now.

So i wonder how much thought goes into this these places have to be accessible, what the hell are they going to do about forest fires how are they going to get to them? There are so many roads back there and they are taking things away from us that we have enjoyed all our lives, i think these people are unreal who the hell pays their wages, taxpayers thats who. Maybe when there is a huge fire and there will be they will just let it go, i would rather have my tax dollars being put to work on reforestation i think they are going to just forget about that now its a lost cause. Just wait to see what it is going to look like in about 5 years there aint going to be a pine standing, i guess they maybe they are worried about that and if we can't see it it won't matter come on, i don't understand what they are trying to accomplish here some how we have to get this stopped it doesn't seem to be in the media or anything how about we have a referendum or something on this maybe its time the government comes clean on whats really going on. Watch out for falling trees is the only signs they should be putting up cause its starting to happen all over maybe we would be their best resource if they actually thought about it, I guess we will just have to let it burn and all the wildlife can just run for their lives.********

I emailed our MLA, Norm Macdonald, below is his reply to my inquiry about his stand on the issue.

"Hello Nathan,
Thanks for your message. I have been pretty clear, both speaking in the Legislature and in the constituency, that I think that the Resource Roads act was a bad idea. Even though it did not become law, I fully expect that if the Liberals are re-elected we will see a similar act come forward again.
I completely understand people's concerns about restrictions to back-country access. I share them. I spend many days of every summer hiking, and have done so ever since I arrived in the area 25 years ago.
I have worked hard to protect our access to the land, and to ensure that local people have say on how our land is used. That belief applies to the Resource Road act, private river-diversion power projects and land-use decisions like Jumbo.
I hope you will keep in touch.

Take care,

Norm"

So that's a good thing.
