Whats the best way to cut the aluminum on your tunnel/boards ?

When you go to your supply store, the disc's will be marked for what metal they are designed for.

Buy a large air compressor, you'll never regret it.

I used a Air sazall on my projects.

So you think Air Tools are the way to go over electric.

seriously...a regular electric jigsaw works as good as anything if you already have one..just drill your starter holes in the corners and get cutting..from the bottom up...go slow and you can hold a straight line easily..

this isnt rocket surgurey.... your cutting a somewhat accurate hole.. draw a line and cut.. your not putting a man on the moon.... if you dont have good tools, they are nice, but you dont need them.. if your desperate, hold a sawzall blade in vice grips(it works, a bit slow, but it works)

I guess electric is just as good with cordless being even better for portability.
But everything I buy is pneumatic first before buying cordless.

got it at the sema show!!!!works awsome cuts it like butter!!!!!

So, the time has come to remove the boards from my Nytro in preparation to install the new tubular set I got from Skinz.

I need to cut the existing boards off leaving a 0.75 inch flange along the bottom where the new ones will rest on and be riveted to.

My question is, what is the best route to make this cut.?

Which tool would do the best job at slicing off the existing aluminum?

Air saw.........no question!!

LMFAO

Hope you won't be offended by my not taking your suggestion here.

I learn by doing.

I learned ALOT from my misadventure last spring.

I will learn even more from all the mods I am doing this summer.

I don't get offended as easily as you do. :face-icon-small-dis As a side note, you should know this kind of topic has been discussed several times over, search makes it simple to get answers.

The Plasma Cutter is not an option for me.

Why would you choose the Grinder over the Nibbler?

You can't cut over a pipe or through any rises in the mettle. That and it tends to give you weird edges and if your not good, you can easily mess up. Also, if you have to start and stop, it is hard to get the cut to lign up corectly.

IMO, invest in a plasma cutter, they are AWSOME! You can cut through anything with a plasma. Even kevlar, carbonfiber, aluminum, brass, steal, i think even SS. As long as you have a steady hand and a good ground, you can't go wrong.

Just use a 3.5 inch grinder with a 5 inch thin thin cutting blade. Will work fine.....wear good eye protection and good gloves and take your time to do the big cuts. Knock the edges off with a small rotary sanding disk when done. Any small corner cuts ect use a jig saw or air saw. Or drill a hole and cut into the hole so you dont have a 90 square edge. Make a nice black felt line to guide and take your time....you will be fine.

I also know that its the middle of summer and this is a good opportunity to give the members of SnoWest a topic to join in on a discussion.

But please feel free to resurrect one of the old archived threads that discussed this topic. Its always interesting to see the old and the new.

THANKS for the comments on the nibbler.

As for the Plasma Cutter, that is a bit more of an investment than I am willing to make for what will likely be a one time job.

I would have never thought this thread woukld have went this far, Eeany meany miney moe:face-icon-small-win

well anyway...its a job that would have been done already if you just would have gotten at it..!!...don;t you know that democracy can be your worst enemy...next time just listen to me and you would have had time for fishing instead of all the shopping your going to be doing...your running boards are as easy as opening a can of sardines or spam...

ya ya ya.
But I am NOT in a rush.
This is part of my summer project.

Its as much about getting the mods done, as it is about LEARNING how to do all of them.

I am enjoying the journey.
Don't need to arrive at the destination till the end of next Fall.....
