WHATS THE BEST TURBO FOR THE NYTRO????

As unbiased as possible, if you have ridden or have a turboed nytro which turbo is the best set up, power, price, maintainance free and why? ANY INFO HELPS!:face-icon-small-con

Fit and finish, turbo response and fuel system ease there is none better then Impulse. Pauls customer service is the best in the industry, hands down. There is no fuel box to mess with, no second guessing if your motor will melt down. I have ridden every other nytro kit out there and Impulse is the best.

kits

I really like my Simmons propane kit but would have got an impulse kit if I was to stick with running gasoline over propane. Good luck!

I agree with motleyone, impulse definately has the best fit and finish and runs ok too:face-icon-small-win. The propane kits that val builds are very reliable and build good power, but, they are not in the same ball park as gas powered and I don't like the big obnoxious tanks under my *** either. Just my 2 cents.

MCX is bolt on and ride.....sled looks bone stock when done. No heat issues under the hood....gas and ride!

Big obnoxious tanks under your ***? lol where do you think the fuel goes on a impulse kit then? As far as not being in the same ball park, I beg to differ on that one my friend :) Either way I love the kit, low maintenance, "awesome power", very reliable, we could start the arguement for another 50 posts about turbo systems or a guy could just look back in previous posts and decide for him or herself. BTW costs me $20 a ride lol oh and way better for the environment heheh

What is the big reason for doing propane? how hard/expensive is the conversion?

My biggest reason for going with propane is because i got tired of spending $700 cdn a barrel for race fuel ever month plus still the pain in the butt to mix it with the $1/ltr pump fuel every ride. Carry around 10 different fuel containers every trip got old fast, plus how cool do the tanks look! lol As far as the cost for the kit go its 11 grand full installed, just drop off the sled then pick it up ready to go, cost includes HP3 seat, required engine upgrades, etc etc.

"Bolt on and ride" well thats a Impulse kit as well as no heat issues. Impulse makes a very strong running reliable kit with out a doubt and i have one on my apex and ride with several Nytros.. You got three good choices mkhoskins. Impulse, MCX and Alpine i really dont think you will go wrong with any. I think you know what one i would tell ya to buy though.

Menace,

As I said, there are alot of good reliable kits out there, but if you ride a gas kit from any vendor and then a propane kit, the weight distribution sucks with propane. I'm very good friends with val and think the world of him, but, there is no comparison with me at 19lbs (fuel) and him at 24lbs(propane)...he's way behind, period, end of story!

Well i am just comparing my new sled to my gas powered mcxpress apex, my nytro would dominate my old apex where i had to run race fuel at 17 psi to be even close. I really dont see how the weight is any worse distributed than the impulse kit where both kits have the huge under seat tanks, midmount turbos, simmons has the mixer up front aswell as the obvious intercooler, impulse has the surge tank and the intercooler. So I am obviously a little biased but as I stated I would have gotten the impulse kit had it not been for me being tired of buying and mixing race fuel. I agree that gas does make more power lb for lb forsure but I dissagree to being waayy behind as you have stated especially if hes running 24 lbs, I normally run only 22lbs and believe me , thats more than enough to get the blood going. I would love to have both kits actually but this kit fits my needs and desires. Funny how passionate we all get when asked what the best kit is, cheers to everyone loving the same sport as much as I do! Look forward to ripping it up with all the different yamaha's out there this winter.

propane doesnt have the thermal energy (BTU's) as gasoline does so boost for boost it cant make the same HP. The price of the conversion for the propane kits is alot more as well. Also unless you have a refueling station setup in the back of your truck you cant just top off out in the backcountry like gasoline!!!

Impulse or alpine IMO.

There's lots of good reading if you use the advanced search. Type in turbo nytro and select the yamaha turbo section.

I have only been on MCX and I own an Alpine. I prefer the Alpine as the guys in Salmon Arm are great to deal with and I really like their product. It is the funnest sled I've ever been on and I am totally satisfied with the performance of it......all on pump gas.

You really can't go wrong with any kit whether its Alpine, Impulse, HP3, MCX or Powderlites. They all have their good points and they all have things that the other kits do better or you just might like better.

One thing to consider is if there are any dealers close to you in case you have problems......especially if you aren't mechanically inclined.

If I didn't go with Alpine I would have gone with HP3.

I think lots has to do with what kit you choose, but more importantly, is the install. you want to make sure the install is top notch ! wether you DIY, or take it to a shop. these are all points we have all said and seen in previous posts. last year I hummed and hawed as to what kit I would go with. came down to the pre-purchase support, a few posts on Snowest, hours of youtube, and saving my pennies based on the above. CR Racing will continue to get my kudos as Chad helped me with my decisions, therefore I eneded up with the impulse Kit. I took as many precautions for cooling and longevity as I could, and yes cost me a bit more. but I will say this, Chad knows the Nytro, he has done tons of turbos. So I was pleased to hear his positive comments about the impulse kit. went together with ease, required no additional mods to fit, and I believe his words after riding on testing day was "oooooh buddie your gonna need suspension work". so I guess that was his way of saying it makes lots of power !!

16lbs on chevron 94, put 2000km on last season, no hiccups, no problems, no heat issues, my vote and slightly bios opinion goes to Impulse:face-icon-small-win

Good luck with your purchase !!

Impulse specific tunnel kit

Over the years it seems it was MC X or Powderlites, lately I hear most have Impulse kits which is for a reason. Everyone I hear is happy with there kits.
We have 2 Nytros in the shop as we speak having impulse turbo kits and our new impulse turbo specific Terra Alps Tunnel kit being installed. Making these nytros easier to flick around for aggressive riders. More track clearance to easily run a 16" wide track with all holes cnc cut into the chassis for different suspensions with adjustablilty as well. Stock suspension holes , M10 and EZ Ryde holes. No guessing all the work is done.
