im pretty sure if i was gonna break fresh into moutain sleds i'd prolly not go higher than a 800cc. and personally, i would probably go with a m8 2007 or 2008. they are pretty cheap(i found on 7100$ before) and their great sleds from what i hear
I bought a Cat because the dealer in my hometown here is really good. It wouldn't matter if they sold polaris or ski doo, i'd still buy from them. All these sleds run so good anymore it's just kinda a toss up. I like my cat, came off a doo that i liked also, just had lots of engine trouble. Rode a dragon 700 a few years back and really, really liked how it handled. Great sleds, all of them. My advice, choose the best dealership. Good Luck!
