What's the best mountain sled out there?

Howdy everyone, i have a apex ltx 40th ann. sled which i love and the power is unreal, but would really like to have a mountain machine to get rowdy in the mountains, and in the deep stuff, i hear so many good things about the nytro, and the M8 and M1000, and even the polaris dragons, what would everyones fav ride be. and what would you suggest to me, thanks a bunch

If you ask that question on here everybody is going to say what they ride is best. The smartest thing to do is to try & ride the different machines. I ride with guys that have Cat, Ski-Doo & Polaris. They all go good but, they are all different in some way. Anymore I personally think the dealer should be your deciding factor.

Modedmach is write on if your going to hit the mountains hard they all break and they all will need some tuning from time to time and if you cant trust the dealership it makes life a real pain. ARCTIC CAT ALL THE WAY!! just my $0.02

I would add boost to what you have as well. Should help your getting stuck problem. Then when you can, maybe put a Timberled skid and drop brkts under it, works well and drops about 40lbs I think. You won't believe the difference in the way that sled handles with 270-290hp. I guess it depends what you want from your sled and what you can handle :D

The M-Series is the best sled AC has ever made, The XP is the best Summit ever made, & Polaris has done awesome with their Dragons. They all kick a$$! Sorry but Yamaha just does not do it for me.

They are all good, my opinion is that a good mountain sled has to be light and nimble, but still stand up when you hit a pine cone (XP). I know saying that will piss off a few doo guys but last seaon I seen to many of them banged up. For sure the nicest, stealth lookin sled out there. Personally I am a M-series addict but from what I have seen the dragons seem to be the best for pull and go with limitations. Heres a pic of mine to help ya decide.........

For the steep and deep, its EXTREMELY hard to beat a well setup XP, IMO. However, like is stated above, you have to have a good dealer that will work for you. Nothing worse than a broken sled that sits at the dealer when a 4' dumping is let loose on the mountains.

I ride a Nytro, and it's the best handling sled FOR ME I've found. It's not going to keep up with the XP (or M series, or Dragons) in the steep and deep in stock form, but for me it's the best option for a fun "turn key" ride. Ask me how many times I went to the dealer last year.......*none*

so far what i've seen i will agree a good running xp/rev is hard to beat in deep powder the feel of the pol/cats chassis is more forgiveing to most riders i've never rode a yami but i like a light sled if i was rich i'd have a 400 lber but as said before each sled has its pluses so if you can ride your buddies or test ride them all remember in the end you will dealing with the dealer so pick a good one good luck

I live and ride over here in Bend, and have had a new M-7 and M-8 153" last 2 years. Great sleds! Broken bulkheads on both after a season, and the rear tunnel tears out for me, but no breakdowns.
A couple friends have the Skidoos, and XPs. The XPs are amazing in the deep light powder, but both went in to the dealer for bulkhead replacements after hitting a stump or rock. The skidoos feel way different than the dragons and M sleds, but it is just riding style.
I was WAY impressed with the dragon!!! Almost bought one, but went with the IQr longtrack for this year.
Fully agree with the good dealership, unless you do your own wrenching.
The dealers over here are a joke.
Just my .02

i have rode all of them i found the dragon to have to small running boards and to top end heavy the doos fold in half and the yammis are just to heavy the cats seem to be my choice but dealer suport is another key thing to have but still here kitty kitty kitty:)

cats always get the highmark!

Why do cat always get the highmark? :D

Sorry.

Depends on your riding style and what you're after.

If you tend to keep your sleds for a few years and crave copious amounts of sick power, you might consider a Nytro, throw a turbo on it and put it on a diet.....need to have some coin for this though. This combo would be nice, would last for years, but is kind of heavy. You could also turbo any of the top three 2 strokes, just don't expect them to last as long.

If you're not too power hungry (This sounds so ridiculous, given that any of the 800s or the M-1000 can take us places we only dreamed of just a few short years ago) then any 800/1000 cc mountain sled from the big three, AC, Polaris, Doo would make you smile in the steep & deep. If you can, test ride first before laying down any coin. As stated above, shop dealer.

Well, i'd say it really depends on what you want to do with it. Personally, for me, I can't ride the XP's. They seem to just not dance as well as my M (for me, anyways). They have this wierd tendancy to not want to lay over, so you're fighting it, and them BLAMO, it's on it's side, and you're past the point of no return, stuck in the trees with pinecones all up in you chit....

But that's just me.... My M, though, seems really nimble, and super easy to "play" with. I rode a buddy's stock Apex MTX last year, and it surprised the heck outta me. For it's weight and size, it was VERRRY impressive and easy to throw around. That could be another option for you, as said.

I don't have any real personal experience with the Dragons, but the ones i've seen seemed pretty impressive. For my money, i'd buy another M8 in a heartbeat. BUT, shop the dealers too.
