whats the best fuel pressure regulator

Just wondering what is the most common and best pressure regulator? I bought a bdx but have been told they don't hold there pressure and are real hard starting and I should stay away as it will lead to a lot of headaches! Im goin to buy a new one just don't know which one yet. Ovs looks like a nice kit. I was also told I can make my stock reg a 1:1 rising for the turbo but it doesn't make me feel very comfortable!

I have a BDX on mine. I have had good luck with mine other than it takes half dozen pulls to get it going if it has been sitting for a week or two(not a big deal to me). Maybe someone else will help you find a better one?????

2nd pull when cold no matter how long it's sat 1st when hot . Also never loses fuel pressure completely i think goes to 30 after sitting extended periods
 
The CPC holds pressure. I likehow easy my 11 is to start, but t's not like pulling the few extra times was that tough on the 09 either.

I'm not afraid of having to pull it a dozen times every once in a while if it works fine other then that ill run it! I was told it was basically worthless I needed to replace it! Anyone else using this reg with good luck?
 
BDX in tank regulator has an uncertain function, dropping pressure when flow increases. Use an external regulator is my advise.

Because of the attention to detail of cutler, that would be my choice. Most of them that wont hold pressure is usually from not having a good seal on all the connections, not so much the reg. If your thinking of boost, non of them and run a diff. pump with external 1:1 reg.
 
I have heard that BDX has a new spring for their regulator. Don't know if that is going to fix the problems. I know MMSports replaced all of his BDXs internals with externals after he had a couple burn downs because the BDX FPRs weren't raising fuel pressure with boost.
 
Im running a 2 to 1 which I believe is a volley I've had great luck with it but I wouldn't hesitate to run a cutler reg dale really knows his stuff

For what it's worth, I like the MSD 2222 regulator. It holds some pressure for a long time(couple of days). Its a 1:1 ratio so it doesn't make the fuel pump draw a lot of power under boost.

During my bench testing with various fuel pumps I found It will flow everything my pump can make at any pressure. The only possible negative is the inital pressure setting is kind of a pain and the max initial setting is only about 45psi, but I don't set it that high anyway so it worked excellent for my TM8.

OVS tuned the fuel curve in my PL box so that I can run it(1:1) and it has been flawless.

Dakota performace has done this. They put the boost line/fitting into the hole on the back of the stock FP regulator. If you are using a PC or BD box you can lean your low end, but I would not use it with a PL box because you can not adjust the FP to gain pre-boost performance.

So if I understand correctly the mod to the stock regulator doesn't allow you to adjust it's initial fuel pressure, but will allow boost to raise the pressure? Does it actually work out at 1:1?

I do really like the option of setting my initial pressure and then letting boost reference take it from there.

What's the difference between bdx reg and a turbo smarts? My bdx reg has turbo smart written on it! Is anyone personally using a stock reg with boost line connected? I'm planning on running a bd box so leaning towards using the stock one if I can

Just like using a OVS regulator, the OVS uses the stock Fuel Pressure regualator with the back cut off to expose the spring they then add a housing around the spring with a thumb screw to ajust the initial spring pressure on the diafram to achive the starting fuel preasure. Then the boost pressure raises it roughly 1:1. For the most part OVS and others are only a housing not a fuel pressure regulator. They work good and do what they are intended to do. With this set up your Fuel pressure can be 36-38 psi giving you better pre-boost throttle responce.

When you screw a line fitting in the back hole of the stock fuel pressure regulator it dose the same thing as the both reley on the stock diafram with boost pressure agianst it. The only differance is you can not adjust the spring rate to achive lower than stock fuel pressure. With this type of set up you have to have a fuel box that is capable of removing low RPM fuel.


The BDX Fuel pressure regulator is made by turbosmart and has its own diafram in it (does not reley on any stock parts). However last year the BDX regulators had a stiff spring in them not allowing you to run the under 40 psi or so. Also the fit is tight and tends to cut the o-rings in the housing witch leeds to the fuel pressure not rissing 1:1 and cause burn down do to fuel pressure falling off under boost. This can happen with both types, you should mount your fuel pressure guage where you can see it to make sure that your FP is rising 1:1 after install.

I like the OVS Style. If you use the BDX call MMsports he was trying to get some lower rate springs for them.
