for those of you who have miles on both. what is more fun not cheaper not reliable just fun. i have heard the 2 is more fun and not enough seat time on one in decent snow to have an opinion

fun factor

Depends on terrain boondocking verses shoots .
In my opinion the m8 for most riding but the 400 HP four strokes are fun shooting hills or point and shoot.

The funnest is beating everybody with a 4 stroke.

Its funner to be able to walk the next day, so that would be two stroke.

I think they are about the same fun depending on how you ride.

Agreed. 4 stroke, point and shoot......up the extreme chutes. 2 stroke, average boost 6-10 psi, medium/largeish hill climbs and boondocking.

Even though they are both in the same chassis, if I had to pick one, im not sure which one I would pick. I think racinstation said it best. Just glad I have both. For a stock sled and for the price you cant beat the 1100T if you want brute power.

Don't get me wrong, you can make HUGE power from the 4 stroke... but honestly I can't think of many situations where you'll be able to show the advantage over a 15 or so PSI 2 stroke, and the 2 stroke will still be much lighter.

I've got somewhere in the range of 7 buddies who went to 4 strokes in the last 3-4 years, and they're all back on 2 strokes now.

To me, the reliability you can get from an M8 turbo negates the need to build a big 4 stroke.

I am with backcountry on this one. I wish someone
with more time than I have, would do some kind of
power to weight ratio and give the real skinny. To
me it would take a lot of hp on a 4 stroke to make up
an m8 at 15lbs. Which is still a very reliable sled.

One day I saw Dan Davidoff mention that 15 psi was about all that was needed to climb most anything... really gave me a wake up. I talk about how anything over 12 is just for giggles... maybe I'm not just talking smack. Higher boost is fun, but I can't say that anything I've climbed at 14/15 I couldn't have gotten up at 12/13!:D

Amen to that.

It sure does suck knowing that some day, probably
sooner than later if we want a new sled it
will have to be a heavy pig.

Well you pretty much get all the power you want out of either, so would you rather ride one that is a 100lbs lighter or heavier. Personally I'm not into fat chicks so I say 2 stroke, but I've never been there either so I can't say for sure. Guess I'll never know

Weighed my PC 800 and 1100t full of gas and oil last week. 800 153 was 538lbs and the 1100t 162 was 618lbs ( with a straight pipe). where in ride at 10,000 the m8 will probably have 120ish HP, the 1100t we will say 180 with the straight pipe.
Power to weight, m8 4.4lbs/HP
1100t 3.4lbs/HP
Now ride at sea level, or boost the m8 and it's game over for the 1100t advantage. I would say that from riding both sleds, the m1100t feels like an m8 on about 8lbs boost, at 15lbs, the m8 would make the 1100t look silly .

holy crap madmax.... ACTUAL WEIGHTS????? AND you did MATH??? you shoulda started a couple threads!!!!:face-icon-small-hap

I just ***umed OP meant turbo on both sleds... seeing where I could be off on that re-reading it now.

Stock to stock, I'd REALLY like to ride the 1100t... fun sled, just a rather specific machine. Big power up high, 170HP at 10k is no joke!

I've been on both sides of it, so here's my version of the truth:

I started off with a CPC M1000 and was hooked on hair-dryers. A crank bearing let loose so I went for reliability. Next came a propane Nytro that I rode at 320HP for 3 days and could not stand the thing. My ego gets stroked from riding well, not having the most ridiculous sled. If you're fat and/or old and want to win at beating out the same flat hill all day, this is your type of sled. I got rid of it in favor of a lowly pump gas M8 and I have no regrets. If there were 2 of me, the one on the 2-stroke could ride circles around the one on the more powerful 4-stroke.

So be realistic with yourself and the choice is easy. Do you want to wheelie up open hills and then have a beer, or do you want to get technical and keep exploring where most would turn back?
