What's in your backpack?

HI, We make same fire starter as XPSPENSIV, but instead of pressing them, I pour them into cupcake TIN. you can get a cheap one at Dollar general.
Makes 6-3" starters, and they rock....
thought about selling them...

small can of sterno burns real hot to get damp kindling started. light weight too. I also have a "Jet Lighter" that won't blow out in the wind.

got all the stuff above but for fire starter or sled out of fuel cut the top off a beer can and gently tip the sled with the most fuel over on its side and boom you got fire starter. Just make sure you carry beer!!! :face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-win

I have seen.............a person pack Hydrocodone or Ibuprofen (800mg) in the medical kit. Lets just say it works to pop a few of them when you have really F'd yourself up and need to ride yourself out.

I carry a lot in my backpack. I've been told I carry too much, but I beg to differ. Here is a list of what I carry in my backpack. Flashlight, glow sticks, avi probe, shovel, windproof lighter, matches, fire starter, mirror, whistle, compass, extra socks, extra stocking cap, extra balaclava, flashing beacon, hand warmers, toe warmers, bungee cords, bailing wire, emergency blanket, candles, bright colored ribbon, toilet paper, spare air valves (for fox floats), leathermans tool, maps, GPS, two way radio, first aid kit, tool kit, survival knife, folding saw, trash bag, zip lock bags, Snobunje sled tow kit, mule tape, and I plan on adding a bivy (sp?) sack. It seems like a lot, but really it's not. I carry a Klim Krew Pack and have plenty of room in there for some other things. I also carry a pistol with me, which some think is silly as well... to each their own.

First aid kit with bivy, toilet paper, firestarters and Voile Straps.
Shovel Probe Saw
Beanie
C02 Tank
Skins
Down Coat

All of the above stuff butt gotta leave room for :face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-hap beer, get an MSR stove! The only mountain stove made. Well that's my take after 30 years of climbing. Good look with canned gas at 10 and below.

Besides the normal stuff, the one odd thing I carry is tampons. They are a great fire starter. Got a string you can hold while dipping it in your fuel tank, they soak full of fuel. Simple light fire starter.

Other than what most carry I carry a jet boil with instant coffee, ramon and soup boils in less than 2 minutes. Also tampons to dip in gas tank for fire starter

candle

Not a real common one mentioned............I have to give credit to my bro for this one................after he told me he a carried a couple 8-10 hour candles(One on me and one in sled). Many places a person may get stuck over night might not have some wood obviously....imagine laying in a snow cave for 12 hours with a small but warm/light and morale boosting candle.............or just hoping the batteries on your flashlight hold................ That candle sounded nice to me! :)

Add to the list a couple of GLOW STICKS, snow cave RAVE! Or you could hang one from a tree as a signal beacon, won't blow out from the wind or rain/snow.

Sounds like you're setting the tone for a date night on the mountain. :face-icon-small-coo
