Well...if mainted right and taken care of.. pretty much all REVs will be reliable..

Is he looking or an MXZ a Summit, or a Renegade???

IMHO..the 06's were the best year summits. but, it'll be VERY hard to find one in the $4500 price range..unless, its wrecked!

06's are the way to go. Don't get a 05 because they sometimes wouldn't start when warm and no dealer has found out what that issue with that is.

I love my 05!

About a month ago I sold my 2000 Polaris mod and bought an 05 REV 800. It Has a few miles on it and I will probably replace the pistons this summer, just because, but it runs and handles awesome. I love the chassis, and the 800 motor pulls just about as hard as my souped up poo. Pretty sure all years are good, but your probably looking at 04-05 in your price range. Just an opinion from someone who sold about the same sled and went REV. Have fun:D

I have an 06 with 2450 miles on it - never touched a thing on it till it found that tree in Togwotee back in Feb. Now its got a new hood , bumper ,muffler , & belly pan , I just about got it back together perfectly - I'm looking to possibly buy a new Rev , R U interested ? -- I would probably need 6 or more I'm not sure what its worth .Maybe more than you wanted to spend , but its a good cean honest sled - it,ll outperform others .

I have a 2005 and I have NEVER had an issue with it not starting once warm. I think people are leaving the carb heaters on when they have this problem.

so it sounds like an 06 is the way to go..he may end up spending up to $6k, but he just wants something reliable like his dialed RMK is. hes wants a 151-156 track and 800 power.

all info helps, thanks

Tell your bro. any year rev is fine. Find the best deal that fits his budget and he wont go wrong. Look it over, do a compression check and and have a good visual of mechanical parts. Was there a bad year "no" they all rip. some say the 06 was the best but, in my opinion some work better than others do to keeping clutches clean ect. I had a 05 and it worked awsome. If you find one with a pipe on it there is no gain off that tell the guy to keep it and lower the price. There lots out there that are good buys you will find one that he can afford no problems, your not stuck with a 06 because they were all good. And no the 05 was not hard to start when warm i dont know where this guy gets his info

(06) :)

my 06 rocks. 03 rev or 03 zx was the first year of the ho motor.06 was the first year of the power tech. 07 was the first year of the power tech R. 03 to 06 are probably your best bet on reliability. 07 and up are your best bet on stock power. R motor is 151 horse.

Doooo It

thanks for the sled offers but, he's not gonna buy until the end of summer, when i buy his RMK.. :D

he really likes IDSLEDHEAD's '04 800 but, he can't do it just yet..

I was just doing research trying to find out what is the best/most reliable REV 800.

please keep the pros and cons (of the rev) coming, thanks:beer;

oh yea,, we like to sidehill, climb/highmark, carve in the pow, and jump:cool:

I'm not saying all 05's do. I work at a dealer and they come in all the time with this issue and we can't figure it out nor can the other dealers we call. We also talked to a ski doo rep who lives in the area. He said that they don't know y they do it and not the 04's, but what ever it was it was fixed in 06. thats where i get my info from.

Hold the Throttle Open

I thought most REV owners (I would think Dealers) have known all along the FIX to the Rev's not starting when they are warmed up is simply holding the throttle to the "Wide Open" position and they fire off (usually) on the second pull, Every time. I've owned the '05, '06 (which I still have) and the '07, every one of them starts better with the throttle held open, when their hot. <just my experience>

Yes but for some reson some 05's just don't start when warm. 04's 06's and 07's don't have this problem.
