What would you do if your Doctor said NO

I had back surgery 7 weaks ago, mager rupture in L4-L5 had to have the bulge removed because I was loosing controle of my legs along with intence pain, the bulge was pinching off my spinal cord. It all gos back to a hill climbing crash, the kind when you have a new sled and your showing off. Had my last check up and my Doctor said no snowmobiling for a year, so I told him Im finding a new Doctor. This will be the first year in 29 years that I will have to sit on the side lines and watch, so when you see my posts this is the way I can give anybody crap this year.

Although I would not suggest it, I rode after 6 months with mine. You will be the one to decide what you can and cannot do. The doc is just giving you he recommendation. I mean after all, dont most of us know more than them...:rolleyes:lol

I just blew mine out, had MRI, 3 minor bulges, legs is numb, both feet numb, sharp pain in hip. Have had issues for 27 years and this is the worst yet. Doc says no riding, not that I can do much right now but will see how long I can sit and wait. He told me to get off my azz and get working out again..... I hate getting old.

I feel for you.

I had too take a season off because of med problems, wasnt much fun but looking back at it now ....it sucked big time but I have a full recovery, you should be able to tell how your dooing by how you feel. Is the risk...LONG TERM PROBLEMS, worth the reward of rideing or doo you just sit this one season out. I also hate growing old..." GROWING OLD ISNT FOR SISSYS" ...Dino

Better to take a year off than spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair! It'll be hard but I am sure that there will be plenty of guys on here willing to send you pics/vids! Just to rub it in, ya know!;)

Seriously, though! rest, heal and come back next year to show em how it's done! Snow isn't that great here anyway! We only have 39" on the top of the mountain and the rocks and stumps are 50"!

life's short, heal good, and yes, i too missed the getting old health class in school.

Bummer

Man, sitting out a season would be terrible, but better than sitting out the rest of your life.....better take it easy.
I've got a couple sleddin' video's, want me to send 'em? With popcorn? J

Yup, better take the season off then risk not being able to ride for the rest of your life. Well, buy a sled with an M-10 and go "trail" riding. ;)

I'd think just trying to rope over your sled could really mess things up right after a surgery like that. I'd listen to the doc, and if you have to scratch the itch, have someone start your sled for you and take it for a spin around the yard or something.

I would tell the MD too stick it. I ride with a condition called cavernous angioma with signs of anurism which is a malformation of blood vessels in the brain. Also rode 2 winters ago through the spring and once all the snow melted i then had rotator cuff and torn labrum surgery.

Its going to be hard sitting this year out when my budies are riding their sleds by my house every weakend, I do have plenty of offers from (friends) to ride my sled but none of them willing to fix it if they break it. Its nice to hear Im not they only one with this problem but it is fun watching my daughter ride her little mod 120 around the house in the powder, her and my wife. I would like to see my sled run a little bit, Id have my wife do it but she is afraid of it. Id love any Vids or Pics, the money Im saving from not riding Ill be able to ad some more mods.

Leg was numb and killing me. Had l4-5 Discectomy surgery exaclty 5 weeks ago and went for a small test ride yesterday with my kids. No sure how bad yours is, but my doc told me to lay off riding for 6 weeks, then limit the cliff drops.:D

I could not stand upright or walk and sleeping killed my leg. I walked out of the surgery with all numbness and leg pain gone. Worst part of recovery was the reation my skin had to the tape they used.

Get another opinion or 2.

If you read the last sentence first I would say the thing isn't going to need to be ridden since it will be getting some new goodies all winter long.

You are doing the right thing by taking time off. In a month or so if you are feeling good and want to try a road ride or something I would go get a second opinion. Bottom line is no doctor is going to tell you to rush back out there and tear up some powder.

Take some time off, If you truly absolutely think you can ride, ask the doctor, and be prepared to live with the consequences of your actions.
