What Turbo Oil???

It looks like at 100 degrees celsius amsoil intercepter is about the same viscosity as Amsoil's 0-20 motor oil. So it's a little thinner at those temps than either a 30 or 40 weight oil.

The reason it has been recommended to run 2 cycle oil in your turbo oil tanks, is so in the event oil passes by the seals in the turbo the oil burns more cleanly than typical engine oil. I must add: :face-icon-small-winThis is not an issue with the new Boondocker oil tanks, because they are vented and will not drain back to the turbo even when the sled is upside down. I’ll also take this opportunity to mention that Boondocker has a new turbo oil specifically formulated to run in your turbo oil tank. This was designed to offer superior lubrication to your turbo bearings and burn cleanly in non vented oil tanks. Boondocker also has a new high performance/turbo 2 cycle injection oil specially formulated to meet the demands of your high performance/turbo 2 cycle engines.

nterceptor, Dominator, DEO (5w40), SSO (0w30) all have a pour point within 4 degrees of each other. The kinetic viscosity at 100 degrees C are much better on the motor oils compared to the 2-stroke oil. Personally I think Amsoil DEO would be a great turbo oil. I run this on my turbo Diesel (VW TDI) and my UOA's have came back great. Really any CJ-4 oil is going to run VERY well in a turbo application. They handle heat so much better.

The TBN (total base number) is higher on these oils as well, important considering these turbo don't have filters (I don't think they do).

I don't buy that 2-stroke oil flows any better than a proper regular oil. At least the published numbers certainly don't show that.

What is the oil sump capacity on most turbo systems?

Different oils are designed to lube at different temps. You would have to heat any oil in excess of 250 degrees before you even started to worry about losing lubrication and the turbo oil never gets close to these temps. If anything we need to be looking at rather or not the oil we’re using is effective at low temps, Thus the theory of needing an oil cooler is not only something that is not needed but can keep your cold oil at cold temps even longer and for a turbo this is not the best option although it is often used as a selling gimmick in the motosport world.

This is also why 2 stroke oil works so well as it does a great job even in the cold temps and with electric oil pumps that are used.

The new Boondocker turbo oil is formulated to remain effective at low low temps and also has some unique features designed just for turbo lubrication.

Got my boondocker turbo kit the other week, thought their new oil would have come with the kit, no one sells it around here so I guess I'm looking for an alternative, how about redline or royal purple 0-40?
