what trailer to buy?

I am trying to decide what size trailer to buy? I want to be able to haul 4 sleds with a 155 track out west. looking at triton prestige trying to decide on a a 7ft wide X 24ft or a 22ft low boy X 8ft wide. The 8ft wide would have wheel wells inside but i was thinking the extra width would be nice and add versatility to haul other things. And I was wondering how much difference they are to pull. I have a 2008 duramax with a chip. thank you for any info!

I pull a 24 with 6' nose 30' oal, with a 3500 duramax, the truck does not know there is a trailer behind it.. Also I had them lift the trailer to 18" for ground clearance and to reduce the inside fender height.. Also I had the entire thing built of Aluminum to make it light..
FYI I like featherlite..

Good luck

I have a 22 foot 5' nose triton 8 foot wide prestige with furnace and other goodies it pulls very nice with my 2011 duramax . 4 longtracks fits fine

We have to travel 800 miles to good riding.
We like the 7' wide for easy towing & rear visibility.
An 8' wide would be my choice if we were 250 miles or closer, but for long hauls you can't beat an inline.

what trailer to buy

can you fit 4 mountain sleds in a 7ft wide 22ft with a 5ft nose or do i need a 24ft. thanks for the info!

Having a wider trailer is nicer, not only for sleds, but also for more room for gear and room for in trailer wrench sessions.

Depends on what you will use it for I have a united 8 by 20 with v. dont realy use it for anything but sleds. I travel close to 12000 miles with it per year, the next trailer will be an inline 7 by 23 and only 5ft high. I pulled one last year and the mpg increase was way better by 2 to 3. The wind does not seem to catch it as bad. It would be different if I was only 250 miles from rideing but when it is 800 it changes my opinion. I have friends that live close to riding in west and they seem to need clearance under trailer I have never wished I had more, the lower to the ground better for long hauls.

does anybody have a triton prestige lowboy trailer. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this trailer and how you like it. I am thinking of getting a triton prestige LB22ft with a 5ft nose.
thanks for any info!

i have a Triton Prestige Lowboy 28ft with 5ft nose and I Love Love it!!! Its my third trailer and the largest one so far and the easiest to pull by far! Im guessing Featherlite would pull pretty sweet also.

I've got a Triton Lowboy also. Mine is 20 foot box with 5 foot nose. 4 163's is no problem with room left for luggage/parts/etc. Pulls like a dream. Pulled 1100 miles last weekend at 80-90 mph and it didnt sway once.

I've done the 7 wides before and they are nice for seeing around but this triton pulls way better and just as easy as the all alluminum 7 wide I had. If you have a diesel pickup I wouldnt even consider the 7 wide(thats my opinion) if you are considering triton with both.

Another thing to take into consideration is pulling on ice when its windy. The 7 wides you have to be longer, therefor, you got more surface area for wind to push the trailer around on ice. Seen it happen last year, my lowboy and the other trailer in group was a 7x29 triton prestige. Driving on black ice with wind east of laramie on I-80 they got pushed in the ditch and totalled trailer out.

I may be willing to part with mine to upgrade to a 24+5 to haul 5 sleds in.

I bought a Triton 24' Lowboy (plus 5' V nose) in November 2010. Plenty of room for long mountain sleds plus gear. Pulls awesome. I had them put some extra D rings in the floor so that it will easily haul bikes. Great trailer. I have not owned a 7' wide trailer so I can't directly compare, but I can say the wide body works great.

I just looked at Triton's web site, they have a "Build a Trailer" link you can order your own trailer on, have not looked at it just passing the info on.

I have a Featherlite 20 + 6 "Rocky Mt Ed" deck over snowmobile, I needed the width for hauling 4 wheelers, i would go at leaast 22 or 24 in length next time. jmo

Boodocker10 - where are you located at? As mentioned above the Triton build a trailer on their website works pretty cool. If you want some pics of the inside options, send me a pm with your email and I will send some of mine.

Why are you going with a lowboy style? I really like the deck over. I also think the 8ft wide trailers(what I have) are so much better for getting around inside and loading and unloading. We have one spare sled and an inline would require us to move that sled out of the way everytime we load/unload. I would also go at least 22 and preferably 24 for what you are hauling. Not much of a weight penalty in a Triton and you would be surprised how much easier it is to move around inside a loaded trailer with a few more feet to space the sleds apart. You can haul what you have in a 20 though. I just bought a Featherlite today. 24' long 8' wide. The Featherlite's arent feather light. They are at least 800lbs more than a Triton on the 20-24' trailers. Your truck would pull either loaded with ease. I upgraded from a Mirage and the weight is nearly the same but for some reason the Featherlite pulls a lot easier, can't figure that out yet. My Mirage is a steel trailer and 2' shorter but bascially the same weight. It has been a good trailer with no issues but the horror stories I see about them has gotten me nervous about using it on long trips. Gonna sell it now.
