What to think about before moving

X'r, send me a PM.
Our greater area is about 100k people.
What kind of work do you do?
We have 3 hospitals and several clinics
15k enrollment student university.
Industry.
Tech.

I have worked in about 35 states and visited every state west of Baltimore.

:)

Maryland?

....so anywhere that isn't MN weather.

Ever consider moving to the banana belt up in Alaska? The Anchorage bowl area has warmer winters and cooler summers than Minnesota, exactly what you are looking for...I grew up in Minnesota and would never move back. We have 4 major hospitals within 50 miles of here, and plenty of family clinics and specialists, so work shouldn't be a problem for you. Direct 5hr non-stop flights between Anchorage and Minneapolis make visiting family easy too. Did I mention that we have no income or sales tax!

Just a little something to make you go hmmmmmm.

You could always lose your mind and buy a lodge! Seriously, I moved last year from WI and have not regretted a minute of it. The hunting and terrain is so much better than the midwest. That part you won't regret. As for work there is a lot out there if you have the skills neccesary for what you want to do. You will find the work ethic is very very very different than the midwest though. Deciding on the area is going to be the hardest part.

I know you think mn is the best thing ever. but you can't compare hunting in mn to hunting in idaho. you just can't. our whitetails may not be booners but there is everything else. beside learning new land is half the fun.

just move and go for it. cda unemployment is 10% right now.

Considerably more lax out here. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good people working but they are in the minority as I see it. I have had as many as 50 employees at one time in WI and it was rare not to be able to find someone to work, and when they were hired they have a tendency to stay with a company., not the case here. I have employees in WI who have worked for me for more than 20 years. A lot of inquiries for work but when I have offered jobs they usually are no shows, or have tons of excuses, yada, yada, yada. Just does not seem to be the drive to work here. Lots of excuses and no performance, or no pride in their work.

Just curious about that one...is it better or more lax?

Funny you should mention that...my in-laws were at a resort with the wifes grandparents in eastern OR this summer that is for sale. Came back seriously considering doing it. Who knows, my father-in-law is fed up with his job and company, maybe something will happen along those lines.

After doing more and more thinking and talking with the wife, she really wants to feel that what we do and where we end up is right.

We have family land in MN that we always thought we would build on and retire too, but some dynamics are changing and if it goes how I think (not how I want) there really will be no reason to stay in MN.

Like I said, this is extreme early thinking and talking, but who knows, something might present itself that forces are hand either way.

PS, great home for sale in SE MN:face-icon-small-win
