What To Pack To Spend The Night

Firestarter

Fire starter: fill an empty summer sausage tube with saw dust, then fill with liquid wax. Let wax solidify. cut your sausage/fire starter to the size you wish to use. I cut 1" long pieces. These make a great waterproof, lightweight firestarter, and they burn great. The last time I used one it burned for at least 1 1/2 minute with a healthy flame. Kind of like a mini "Presto log". They create plenty of "fire starting" capability if you have prepped your fire (gathered kindling) before igniting your "starter".

These are tough as well, they can bump around in your pack for a couple years before needing to be replaced. When you make one "sausage", cut it up and you now have many yrs worth of fire starter.

While at walmart...

While at walmart looking for fuel for the homemade stove/burner, i came across these 2 for 6 bucks with fuel and everything. I will have to make better stands, and find out what the sweet spot is for height/temp. I think for the price, i would be inclined on building my fire right on top of one of these while i was setting up shelter at the same time(providided i was not injured). I think at your local camping specialty store you will find a small pot with a sealed lid that these and your matches/lighter will fit in. Also at that same store you will find a ton of really good meals that all you do is add to boiling water. So, now all we have to practice is the shelter thing
