When I turn my 2007 M8 over without plugs on it, the crank moves to 12 distinct positions. It feels like a DC electric motor. There isn't any bearing noise, and it turns pretty easy, but still has some resistance. If I run the motor the 12 distinct positions are located at the exact same crank angle after I shut it down.
My instincts tell me that this is just the stator / magnets, but it feels pretty strong for it to be that. I didnt want to pull my stator to make sure if someone here has had a similar experience that could put my mind at ease. Otherwise, i'll pull the stinkin' stator!
I know the 07 - 08's have pretty strong stators, so mabe its just more than i'm used to?
