What mule tape to use?

We've used mule tape for a few trail fixes, but I've never looked at the tensile strength. I want to pick up a roll and need to know what everybody is using.

a buddy bought this stuff... not sure what the rating is, but it pulls a sled out just fine.

my brother is a lineman and he gave me some of what they use. It's 2500# Muletape by Neptco. Inc. Possible telephone # 401-722-5500. This is incredibly strong and light.

I've read that some places only use it once and toss it. Anybody have access to this stuff instead of buying it?

I don't know what I did to that pic, LOL . any way, I have both. The thicker tape I believe has 2850lbs on it, and the other of course is the 1250. I like the 1250 myself it is supper strong, but it does brake every once and a while. Such as, if the towed sled gets a little slack and the tower needs to get on the gas to pull a little harder on the towie, it does brake. So I double the 1250 and it will hold up to the towing. The bigger tape takes up a little more room, but have not broke it toeing a sled.

Access you say, LOL I ended up with a whole roll of the 1250 stuff, AHHH 10,000 feet. Need a foot, I could spare one. LOL

I googled the nepco muletape and looks like 1/2" wide is 1800 lbs while 3/4" is
2500 lbs. Downside all I could find for sale was 3,000 ft spools, lowest price was
about $330 and high over $500!!!!

Sounds like awesome stuff if you can find a hundred feet.

I do love the stuff, It is very lightweight, strong, and doesn't take up much space. I've used it for towing dead sleds (needed some more Sunday). I used some on Sat. to tie a shock to a skid arm. It worked good enough to get the sled about 10 miles out of the mountains.

This is priced fairly, we could buy one and divide it up for cheap.

I used it sat. to drag my sled out. A few years back a crew came through installing fiber-optic's and was useing it for something. They gave a ****t load of the used stuff to my mom, she made a bunch of lead ropes and reins for her horses out of it.I'll see whats left.

3000' for $330? Sounds like a Colorado group buy could be in order and then the cost would go down substantially per person with each person getting a big enough piece to do what they would ever dream of doing. Oh say, like pulling a Dragon out of a nasty little hole.

On a side note, SB I sent you a PM. I need a measurement.

looking on ebay, this one looks like a good deal & is 2500# test. 1400 feet for $49 ($30 shipping though)

the 3000' roll (1250#) is $.058 per foot, and the 1400' roll (2500#) is $.056/ft. We're talking about 2/10 penny per foot cheaper.... oh man... big money!

I have never seen this stuff, is it nylon, does it stretch?

I want a tow strap that stretches, I use a 3/8X50' nylon rope now, it's only good for about 1000lbs breaking strength but nylon rope has about a 40% stretch, hard to break with that kind of stretch.
Gets rid of a lot of the shock loading.

We use that rope for towing whenever we ride with our Arctic cat buddies....in all seriousness though that stuff is light and tuff, only real downside is good luck untying it after you use it, unless you know your knots you will be cutting it after every use.
