What kind of fish is this??

The type that is good with a baked patato and some lemon wedges.

Other than that, no clue.

You think they are ugly, snag a sturgon while paddle fishing. Now that is one ugly fish

Funniest thing I've ever seen / read about a sturgeon was this native fella in Saskatoon that caught one by the weir on the South Saskatchewan and decided it would be a good idea to carry it 3 blocks to his house and take pictures of it in a kiddy pool. The park narcs caught wind of it and nabbed him with it in his backyard. Got a ticket for not having a sturgeon permit (you could buy one at the time) and illegal transportation of wild game.

Guy I grew up with still holds the state record of 120lbs 12oz. There are bigger ones but the waters they exist in here in SD are off limits. Only place you can fish them in SD now are below Gavins Point Dam near Yankton. Snagging and Bowfishing them are the way to catch them. Not uncommon to snag 30fish that are slot fish (too big or small to keep). Bowfishing you keep what you shoot. They taste awesome and easy to clean since they have a cartlige skeletal system like a shark. Simply gut them, cut off the head and slice the tail to the spinal cord. Pull the tail and spinal cord out, pull the skin off and then cut the red meat off and toss (very oily tasting). Then cut into 1inch thick steaks and cube. Bread and deep fat fry and yum! You think Walleye is good! Paddlefish is simply the best tasting fish (longnose gar is pretty good too). Kinda reminds me of lobster for texture and taste.

They have a hard time reproducing on the riversystem since they are a migratory fish and the dams prevent them from migrating upstream. GF&P captures stock from above Gavins Point Dam and milk the eggs etc. and release stock below the dam. From what I've been told, they do not reproduce below Gavins Point dam naturally much like the Chinook Salmon on the Oahe Resevoir here in Pierre.

Not what I was expecting when I opened the "What kinda fish" in FP. Was thinking I better get a look at this thread before the porno police get it.

I think the Muskie rates right up there with the paddle fish and sturgeon. There are a few lakes in MN that the DNR tries to maintain the Muskie population.
I caught one when I was 5 years old, while fishing with my dad. This was in 1947, heh, heh. I don't remember much that long ago, but when I hooked it, he grabbed the rod out of my hands, and when he was able to see what it was he headed the boat for shore.

When the water was about knee deep, he jumped out of the boat, and dragged the Muskie up on a beach.

Any how, the head of it was mounted, and still resides on my wall today.

ick, Muskie, Northern pike under 5lbs rank right up there with eelpout. like trying to fillet a bag of snot!

You can fish for Paddlefish in N.D. too.

My brother does, the state sets up a cleaning staton, and collects the eggs. I guess a caviar(sp) is worth ALOT. Black eggs I hear. Anyways, the cleaning station sets up by the river and cleans the fish for you too. One per year I think there.

I think they did! Arent they actually prehistoric???

Yes they are some articles says they have been around for 200 million years according to fossils and can live to be 150 years old. but i disagree about them being ugly the color ranges from a almost black to a bright and shiny silver. there a wonderful fish to hook up on a rod and reel nothing like seeing a fish that is sometimes well over 6 foot jump clear out of the water several times during the fight. the largest I ever caught was 9 foot 8 inches and took over 90 min to land with help from my fishing buddy.
