What is the "rep" all about in these forums?

I know you can get positive or negative rep on your posts. What does it mean? I looked at mine and saw I have two reps posted but I don't know if they are positive or negative. (not that I really care)-now give me a little negative rep for that!

Negitive rep is red.
Brown rep is from someone who doens't have any rep to give.

It is just a representation of what people think of you and your contribution to the forums.

You can't blame DenverR1 for not using the search function, he hit his head earlier this year trying to park his motorcyle on top of another one.
I think it may have damaged something, j/k I asked too after some tool ripped me up with a lot of negative rep after suggesting using pm's for dickering on prices...

I don't think a whole lot about this rep thing, All I got was one guy who left bad rep because he make a nasty comment about a picture a girl put up of herself and I posted that I thought it was rude, just trying to keep it respectful.
