What is the easiest Chassis to wedge the CR500 into?

I have a mint condition 2004 YZ 250 and I'm thinking of putting a CR 500 into that Chassis. I want to stay away from the aluminum frames, because I'm not set up to weld aluminum.

Ktm are pretty straight and line up well... But I would make the yz work

I don't see much advantage in that frame over a stock steel 500 frame. I had one of those bikes, it was OK but its pretty old geometry and its no lighter or stiffer than the 500 steely. If you are going to do it I would go with the newest cromo KTM frame I could afford.

Money does make a difference in the decision making. If I do it I will be using the Panthera CR500. And I will probably use YZ chassis if it can be done without butchering the frame. I've had the YZ since new and I still have the top end kit it came with. There is only about 25 hours on this bike. Maybe less. I've only ridden twice in the last 8 years. My current snow bike is a 2013 FE 501. I want to leave the Husaberg alone while I build a CR500; if I decide to do it. I agree the KTM would be a better chassis. I was thinking the KTM 300 would be the best.

I am in the process of putting a MRE cr500 in in a ktm frame. The cr500 is a monster in size compared to the 300. You need a 450 frame and it drops right in like it was made for it. just need to weld new frame mounts and machine some swing arm spacers. I think anything less than a 450 frame will require a lot of fab work.

can it be an older ktm, like 2004 and up? How thinking an EXC model, because of the lights? Is The KTM 500 chassis OK? My Husaberg FE 501 would probably be a good choice, but I don't want to mess with a bike I've already set. Besides knowing myself it will probably take me a couple of years to complete.

Yes as long as it is 450 or bigger, but the frame won't have as good of geometry. You want 2007 sx 450 up or 2008 450 exc, xcw,xc up, to get better frame, the plus with the sx models is the closed chamber forks which will be better suited to snowbiking. lights, stock incandescent are crap on just about every bike so it doesn't matter which model.

4 stroke KTM rollers are cheap, cheaper if you want a snow only bike and don't need the wheels. Sell the YZ and go newer KTM. If a Panthera motor is in your future then the chassis is going to be the cheapest part of the build by far.
