Looking at getting a new dragon 800 163"... I can either get a hold over 09 or a 2010.. I am just wondering what the difference is between the 2 besides hood color? The dealer tells me that the hold over will have all of the updates like new pistons, fuel mapping, etc...:face-icon-small-dis

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Evan

biggest difference I can think of evan is the 10 uses a different case top half and cylinders..same in every way to the 09's except has more meat at the base of the cylinders to give the pistons more support(which is why the top case half is different)..otherwise..pretty much just color and stickers.....

differences

The 2010 seats are much improved, very sticky the 08/09's were slippery when wet, also the pipe and can are different, but not sure why

well, when all is said and done, after calling around to all of the alaska dealerships, i basically save $635 if i buy an 2009 from the local dealer (who has 3 09 800 163's in stock) vs. buying a 2010 D8 163 out of town(because the local dealer doesnt have any 2010 163's). Tough decision, i'd preferably like to support my local dealer but $635 isn't much of a discount for an 09 vs. a 2010... or am i wrong?

Evan

$635 sounds like a lot of money for essentially the same sled. You won't care about the head and pipe difference and the seat thing is overated because you shouldn't be sitting!

That $635 will buy a camo extreme track or Fox Floats. Both are huge upgrades for that sled.

what exactly is the difference between the pipe and silencer on the 09 vs 10? I had the dealer here tell me it was EPA stuff and the guy down at Eagle River polaris told me it was backpressure realated.. Who should i believe? or are they both right?

evandaigneault, you hit the nail on the head they are both right! EPA Emissions changed so they changed the pipe and can and it is much more pressure sensitive.

The rumor mill has it if you install a aftermarket can on a 2010 it may lose up to 6 hp depending on the pipe. This was reliable information from Jim at Dynotech.

IMO the engine base, cylinder jug changes would be the many consideration besides year and price. But $600 helps for some other mods if you buy a 2009 model year? Are on WE shocks the same from 09-10 or is that just on the assaults?

a few other differences i noticed on my 2010 vs my 09 were different front plastics that helped guide the hood better, rubber bump stops on the rails vs the plastic ones on the 09, and a better air box design that now seals in the front. Also, the headlight adjuster is plugged.
