What is it with this industry? No stock?

I think this is the only industry that I've found nearly EVERYONE out of stock of nearly everything! Here we are at the start of the season, and many of the retailers and manufacturers are out of...you name it.

How does this industry work? If you shred your coat, how do you get a new one this time of year? Heck, the only way I found the particular coat I want was on ebay, as the mfg was out of everything but two styles. Really? The mfg? Now I understand they aren't actually making the stuff, but shouldn't they have a supply on hand to feed the sport during the season?

I don't know. What are the most popular suppliers? I've seen a few suppliers, but maybe I'm missing the biggest ones.

Was it a branded jacket you were looking for? If that's the case, typically they only make so many of them, and when they're gone for the season, they're gone. Low volume dealers here only get so many and they sell quickly, where larger dealers will have tons of that sort of thing. The small dealer checks again, and they show up as not available, cause they've all been sold/sent to stocking dealers. And, I see your in Iowa, we don't really have any large stocking dealers of any brand here.

Oh no, I figured there's no one here selling product...it's Ia :face-icon-small-ton

I've looked at the big boys. I've heard bad reviews from one, another is expensive and lacks options, and yet another is just plain expensive.

Who is the biggest supplier that you're aware of?

What are you looking for?

The only problem I run into is finding OEM parts in a bind, with any make/model. As far as gear or accessories etc, I've always been able to spend way more than I should, stuff I want. :face-icon-small-hap

I've always had good luck with firstplaceparts to name one. Just got a few things in the mail yesterday from them. And really haven't had any problems with any vendors that are active or recommended on here.

I guess if I had any gripe, it's that I try to order 5 things, and need to place 3 different orders cause of who carries what.

Try these:

Sled Solutions

First Place Parts

Snow Big Deal

Dennis Kirk

Not sure what brand you are looking for but between these 4 I have never not been able to find mid season items.

LOL, New to the sport?

This time of year everything gets somewhat scarce. I would have to say over 90% of sales is done before the season starts for anyone. This crowd gets into and geared up long before we can ride. Most places are now placing orders for spring merchandise. Just the way it is. You said you saw what you wanted on ebay, I suggest snatching it up before that is gone also.

Recreation Supply outta Saskatoon, Sk.
They carry excessive amounts of everything and usually have anything and everything I am looking for. Its in Canada, so you get to save 20% right off the top because of exchange rate.

Make to order vs make to stock. Manufacturer produces according to what's ordered plus a small buffer. They can't afford to tie all their cash up in product sitting in a warehouse hoping it will sell before it becomes outdated or out of season. As big as we feel our sport is in reality it's not big enough to support make to stock in most cases so therefore as explained before they make a production run and that's it for the season and they are on to spring items. Larger manufacturers like Klim or FXR forecast sales and produce to that and if we as the consumer do not purchase early well we are sh1t out of luck! Ebay man!

If your in the states i would buy everything from blown motor. They are awesome, they can get basically any sled part too if you call them.

Yup, and particular to boot :becky:

Perfect example - FXR goggles. They make over a dozen designs, but most places only have a couple of those, and FXR is sold out of a couple.

It's an interesting market place, that's for sure.

I waited for 2 months to get a particular FXR helmet for my kid, apparently there was one available... in RUSSIA.

I gave up and got him into a 509 lid for twice the money. FXR can suck it.

I hear you Sling.

I try to buy everything I think I will need in Sept. By Oct. it is arriving.

If we're b**chin' about gear lol,,, How come if they have a perfect design, fit, colour for me in boots, gloves, ballywhatsit's they change it a couple of years later and I have to shop again.

Pisses me off!!

The other one is for one line to have a color combo in a jacket, but nothing matching in the bib :noidea: or glove.

You've probably given the best excuse to go all black

You know what they say about going black! :face-icon-small-ton

Kidding aside, I did just that. My expensive gear that outlasts my sleds (bigger problem), now will match anything.

Props to blown motor. At least they answer the phone. According to the gal on the phone all items were in stock and ready to ship. As for the first place I tried, well really not sure as they wouldn't answer anything. My business will go to blown motor for now.

imported goods are very scarce right now. the west coast ports have been on a slow down all summer. I am seeing anywhere from 1-3 weeks delay due to the port problem.

I am a retailer that sells both foreign and domestic goods. the port issue has been going for a few months now.

I can't believe I didn't have them already. They're in my favorites list, and I'll definitely be looking into their stuff.
