I was just wondering what all your imput is on the chaterbox's or whatever you use to comunicate inbtween riders. I am looking to purchase one so up to 4 riders can talk back and forth. Or is it more hassle than there worth? Thanks for all the info.

We use Motorola talk abouts with firefox throat mics.

They work pretty fair when boondocking through the trees.

fella.....if you have a female riding with ya...just tell her and in a bit everyone in a twenty mile radius will know what your saying...and then have the fellas you ride with reverse the procedure...it a proven method through thousands of years

works awsome i can hear and talk as I ride.......its not stuck in your ear that way you can tune it out when needed......

I think our Garmin's have head pieces......but we've never used them. Trust me, he does NOT want to hear what I am saying when we're riding! ;)

Garmin rino gps are what we use. They also have a ping button that will alert your buddy's and show your location. They also will pick up the walk about radios if on the right channel.

I was thinking the same as Scott.. a good radio with throat mike and helmet speaker... keeps the background noise down.

I'm looking into this myself... I'd like to use the 5 watt VHF radios that I already have.

Chest holster (or backpack strap) with a push to talk button (PTT) in addition to voice activated that can be deactivated.

Hmmm...Those Garmins look nice, what is the range in the mountains or is it line of sight?

We've been happy with out.

PTT button down the sleave and into your glove.
Ear bud and throat mic.

It's a pretty good system.

You only transmit when you put the PTT button.
Worked well for a buddy who was upside down in a tree well. LOL Legs straight up in the air and he couldn't move...totally stuck. Woulda died there. SERIOUSLY. But he could push his PTT button and let us know. We got to him in about 4 mins.

Yep, pretty much. I have the one with the clear ear bud...not an electronic earbud.

oh i see...they call it a sound tube....is that pretty comfortable under a helmet throughout a day of riding?

Yeah, I hardly know it's there. I wear them on the ATV too.

Not a good idea for hunting because then you can't hear outside noises as well though.

i got one coming...i will try it out and if need be i will try out a soundtube...thanks for the advice

I checked the motorola web site and there are lots of diff models of these. Looks like a great idea. Volume loud enough, in general?

rmk2112,

Mine does. I wouldn't use the vox option on a sled though. Engine noise is too great.

I use the PTT wrist button that goes down my sleeve and sits in my palm. It works easily when riding.

Chatterbox here. I can talk to all the riders in my group and if I chose to can talk to just my passenger and I can do that without the rest of the group hearing the conversation >>>>.
