What if it's not retrievable?

Wow, that has got to suck, 2 in 9 days. :face-icon-small-con:face-icon-small-dis:face-icon-small-con

I can just hear your Insurance agent when you walk in on monday before you say anything.." Are you f***ing scamming us? Get the F**k out of here!!"

Sorry for your run of bad luck. Hope everything gets resolved ok. On the bright side, hoping you bought both sleds from them same dealer, you can go in and ask for a major discount on the 3rd one. :whoo:

last i heard helicopter service out of hayden here charges i think 1700 bucks and they require it upfront, then if they go to the area and by whatever reason can't get it out , like for weather reasons or things like that, you still have to pay the money..

Sh!t happens. You'll laugh about 2 in 9 days down the road. Hey, get a limited edition hat made that says "2 in 9" or something like that and come up with a cool logo. I got a limited edition hat that says "first turn racing" has absolutely nothing to do with racing. :face-icon-small-dis

I remember three years ago I had a similar incident to you. It was a blue bird day, powder was perfect, it took us all day long to get back to the backside of this hill that we play on. Finally made it there and played around for a few hours. It was getting dark and we were ready to rock out and I decided to take "one more pull" because I couldn't resist. Anyways I got F'D on the top and ended up bailing off the sled. The sled went down and down and down until it stopped, on a tree. Whipped out the whole left side, including skid rail. I was in a bad spot, plus it was dusk. Me and my buddy both tried sidehilling out of where I landed but between the condition of the sled and location it just wasn't going to happen. Sooo I left it. Nothing worse than double riding out and looking behind to see your sled sitting in the snow, alone. That night I rounded up all my sledding buddies I could find, gathered all the parts and tools I needed, and at first daylight we all went out, we ALL hiked down to the hole, fixed what we needed to be fixed, and managed to get it out with manpower. Morale of this story is, if you want it bad enough, you will go to whatever extremes necessary in order to retrieve it. And looking back on it now, it was fun. :) Everybody F@#'s up, if the possibility wasn't there, the sport wouldn't be nearly as fun.

Is the sled actually wrecked or just stuck in a bad spot?

Wondering the same thing. You really don't say in your post.
Did you bail and it just coast, hit a tree or did you ride it all the way down?

he will get back to posting on this thread after he finishes learning his newer , safer and less costly activity that his insurance company suggested for recreation....

yep , that knitting takes time to learn..

Not to mention all of the leaf lickers posting pics of it on all of their tree hugging sites depicting you as the devil.

A chopper can pull it out of pretty much anywhere, getting it hooked on is the issue so it looks like you get to hike down and up that slope again unless it stopped someplace he can land and sling it. Chainsaw winches are also your friend at a time like this.

Considerations regarding method used:
Assuming you need to bring it back to the top -
How far down is it?
Are there anchor points for ropes/pulleys/winch?

I'm thinking rope/pulleys if you have a place to anchor. The longer the rope the better. The loose end of the rope you will want to pull downhill so you can use gravity (your bodyweight).

Another option is Masdam rope winch/puller. Mine has 100' of rope and 1500lb capacity. Endless winch type. Est $130

They make portable power winches. I'm not versed in these but maybe you can rent one if you don't want to buy one.

Fastest, easiest would be the power winch. Then ropes/pulleys, then Masdam.

Well, fastest would be copter, but it is a matter of time vs money and each has to decide for themselves.

A buddy of mine had a similar issue years ago with a fourwheeler that got away from him and went 1000+ feet down a draw and into a creek. he had to recover it. What we did is worked with the insurance agent to recover it. We got full salvage rights and $700 bucks to get it out.

So you might ask around you might find a couple down on their luck guys that want an adventure. the insurance company can pay the money for retrieval and the crew can get salvage.

In our case it saved the insurance company the chopper fee.

But it has to come out.
