What head and fix kit works

Are you running a fuel controller as well? Also have wondered about Terra Alps Piston Kit and head Combo?

i dont think terra has his shop anymore, dont know of anyone that has been able to get hold of him either. Go for mtntk

I will be in Kelowna in late April, will double check just out of curiosity. Have used a MTNK kit in my '09 Dragon with a PA head. Will be putting that head on my new '13 Pro. Mongoose out of Vancouver sells a Piston/Spacer Kit c/w Wiseco's like MTNTK. Cost is much better because of our low Cdn dollar.

I would put 12-1500 miles on it first stock, then do the kit when the pistons need replacing anyway. Doing it right away doesn't really get you anything, a few hp you are unlikely to feel... My buddy has the mtntk and par head on his '13. Runs great but not much better than my '14 holdover.

Let us know what you find out. I bought from Hanson Racing, pistons and shim, just like mtntk. But with some minor differences, will be using head from powder freaks also. I went with hanson racing because of the price, in total after taxes and shipping to norway i saved enough to make my decission easier. Currently on oem pistons (since sled was brand new) and rktek head.

Just got 2015 pro looking for a fix kit and head for power and reliability
Has anyone have experience with the terra alps kit

Regardless of what some may have you believe, the success of any "fix kit" on the market is based solely on proper blue printing during the assy. stage OR in other words, most any piston on the market will work in this engine providing it's installed with the correct clearance.

That said, it is my understanding that most of the 2014/15 800 CFI engines now come from the factory with proper piston to cylinder wall clearance so changing the pistons right off the bat might be redundant.

Terra Alps is still working everyday. Go to there website and go to contacts. Asking someone on here is not the right way to find out.

NA84 - did you try to contact Terra Alps ? You can try the other piston kit, TerraAlps uses a better cast piston with tighter clearances. Will last longer, takes heat better. Also has options for different port timing, clearances and head designs. Something others don't understand or offer. freak head is a copied head doesn't understand what hes selling.

Merlin - the piston clearance only changed .0005" for 2014 nothing to talk about, still a poor piston design. but works ok in lean conditions. Yes theres lots of piston kits on the market alot of crap and those putting kits together don't understand it fully. Its best to go with a builder that knows whats goin on not just some sales shop that will sell anything out of a book.

You can check out some of the dyno testing with heads and pipes , at terra alps fb page, one common head only made 1 hp over stock, Terra Alps head made 7 hp gain.

cheers,

Sorry about the really late info. Work and building a new house have clouded my thinking. I forgot to check in April on their shop. Was just in Kelowna a week ago. Looks like their is something at a private residence via the address and Google Maps. Called but no answer. After talking to a few more people I am going with the replacement Wiseco pistons from Mongoose in Port Coquitlam. I have all the parts from my 2009 MTNTK kit including a new plate to fit the 2013 motor. Cdn dollar right now makes the Wiseco's from MTNTK way to pricey.

Yes the mtntk got a bit expensive compared to the others for me and some others to. It`s probably good products and i know their customer support is very good, but there is other good stuff to for a lower price.

I have Mtntek kit with wiesco pistons in my 10 D 800 and my 11 Pro 800 now has a Snow-X fix kit and I like the Snow-X because of the Cast pistons and the better (in my opinion) alloy/ temp coeffieient and as was said, it really depends on the blueprinting work done during the fix kit build up. There is no substitute for details on the piston clearences and checking the squish and all of the other details associated with good mechannic skills.

I could not agree more on the engine details!! On my '09 800 Dragon and MTNTEK's kit everything was great. The guys in Aston were great to deal with. As stated many times, warming the engine adequately with the Wiseco's is required. Do that always and you should have no issues. The current value of the Cdn $ against US $ makes a guy look around now for other options unfortunately.

Like said above the canadian dollar is killing us for buying anything right now. Who makes a fix it kit based out of Canada, anyone?
