What fuel to use 2008 M1000

I just burnned down my 2008 M1000 after 1300 miles but the only thing I changed this year was the addition of a BDX black box intake. Should I be running premium fuel with this intake????

I don't think the intake has any impact on fuel octane requirements. It will make the machine run leaner though. Did you sieze while running in the 5500-6500 rpm range? Most twins run lean in this range to being with, and the intake would have made it even leaner.

1300 miles can't be normal and not sure it did not lock up just quit running on one cylinder. Ran like **** the other day but there was not one RPM held for a long time at all?????

same here, 87 since day one and no problem on my 08. People think that the bog they are getting is due to the fuel mapping (while they are running 91 octane). Running more than 87 can appear as a mapping issue but everyone I talk to running 87 hasn't had any problems.

Book says run 87. Buddy of mine ran premium, had a boat load of troubles, he sticks to 87 now as well.

Also, we he ran the premium the diagnostic light was on the whole time, plugged it in, told him to run regular.

The black box leans her down too much. You need a fuel controller or regulator for one. Run 87 octane, unless you have head mods that would warrant higher octane. You will actually produce more power with lower octane.

the black box leans it down too much??? this is the first I have heard of this.... Everyone says that it works the best and no controller needed.

from what I understand, you can get away with the can & y-pipe on the 08's but if you do anything to the intake you need a fuel controller.

I'm not sure if you meant it the way it sounded, but you can run a can & y-pipe OR intake no problem, if you combine them you can still be fine but it is on the edge (my dad had no problem with this setup but has since taken off his y-pipe). I am running a can and intake with no other mods and have had no issues thus far.

If you change the intake system add fuel !

You need to atleast add a fuel control box or a fuel pressure regulator when you remove the stock intake system. There is a bad lean spike when the power valve opens and when you make it leaner it will squeak !!
