What do I need to turn my Crossfire 7 in to a 153"

I am on a budget and trying to turn it into a 153"

by the way its a 2006

Has any one done this and what do I need

153" skid
Different driver
Track of course
clutch ?
Gearing?
How about the wheels attached to the tunnel mid way down, do I need different brackets
and a Tunnel extention and maybe the heat exchangers?

ETC?..........

Pal made 153" conversion to CF 8 SP -07 and I put 141" track into CF 7 SP -06.

Easy way is: Get Float conversion from AC, rear brakcets, 8 tooth 3" drivers or whole drive axle with drivers (I bought axle with drivers from BD-X) and the track of course. Also 10.4" secondary and -09 tunnel mods are really good mods! We bought -09 rear bumper and foot brackets and modified them to fit our sleds. If you go this way you need to straighten the rear heater. Otherwise it will look little stupid (in my mind). You can bend the heater straight with heat. Be carefully.

We live so low so we've used stock gearing. We ride in trees mainly so longer gears work quite good. I'm going to try M gears next winter and whole different clutching. We've noticed stock clutch and 44/40 helix with R/W torsional works quite good around here. So it's basically stock clutching in our elevation.

Hope this helps.

Hey depend upon how much Mountain riding your gonna do i would look into muying an M series..I had the same sled and was gonna do the samething but i ended up trading it off on a M1000 for a good price. Well good luck

yeah i'm doing the same thing this year. If it wasn't for the fact that i have a small fortune into my motor already I would definitely recommend just trading for a M sled. IMO you will have a grand into it at the least, and thats assuming you can find some used parts. I'm on the high side of 1600 already and don't have everything I need yet. However I am doing the vanamburg boondocker tunnel extension and the new cat seat. I suppose if I can sell my old rails and track I may recoup some of the money as well but honestly just buy an M!!!

Like some of the others have said, it's cheaper and you end up with a better mountain sled, to just sell yours, pay the extra $500 for a used M and go ride.

I would recomend selling yours and buying one as well. I just do not think that it pays to do it all. Otherwise if you really want to, I would keep ALL of the stock stuff and when you are going to sell it put it all back to stock and sell the parts you used to extend it to someone else looking to do it. You wont get your money back out of the long crossfire. That being said I have a 153 crossfire but I just bought it this summer already done!! So much less work!! I have extended ZRs and all sorts of stuff and for resale purpose it is way better to have it back stock is what I have found. Get more for them stock than all streched out because the guys that are willing to spend the money arent looking for mods. Just my opinion.

agree with all that said sell/trade for a M, I just traded my 06 CF 700 in on a 08 M8 153, in the end cost less than all the mods i was going to have to do to get the CF close to the stock M8.. 2$

I did my friend's 06' Crossfire 700 last year from 136" to 144" for under $500. Extended rails, new hifaxes and track are only things needed to converse it to a mountain sled without having to extend tunnel, matter of fact after the conversion, you would think it is stock because you can't tell the conversion had been done to the sled. Also I removed the front sway bar. She can keep up with big boys on longer tracked sleds anywhere from 153 to 162 with no problem on the mountains. Clutching was left alone as it works perfectly.

New track $350
extended rails $100
new hifaxes $50

The job took about 2 hours with no help. Extra help would be nice though

Other than the track, it is not that expensive to buy the parts to change it out. Simpler to buy a used M, but I am always wary of someone elses sled. Is it half burnt down? Did it crash? You know the history of yours.

I have done 162-153 swaps and a 153 07-09 tunnel and track upgrade. Once you sell your stock parts, it is less than $1000 to swap using all new parts.

You need a new tunnel extension. You do not need new coolers as you can just use a longer hose between the tunnel edge coolers and the rear cooler. Rear brackets are the same. The suspension is different, but you do not have to change it out. Gearing is personal preference, but I would go lower. There are a lot of used stock sets out there. Clutching is basically the same as a crossfire at the same altitude.

Buy used parts if you want to save $$$. As a matter of fact i have a used 153 extension and rails FS if you are on a budget.....

I would agree with you if want to go to 153", a used M series would be feasible than upgrade crossfire from 136 to 153 however if is on the budget, that is what I trying to say about upgrading from 136 to 144 without costing an arm or a leg.

If you are going to do it check out my track in swapmeet, tracks, 153 powerclaw cut down to 1 3/4 would work great on a crossfire.

going to a 144 is easy and fairly cheap. rail extensions, and a track is about all you need. My buddy did it a few years ago and it seems to work pretty well for him. look for a used 144 m skid, anad bolt it in. Otherwise, if you really want a 153, buy an M.
