I have been running Red Line since the company started back in the 80's making race oil for my racing kart. I haven't used anything else since. It's not too bad for the price either. I pay $32 and some change for a gallon of the Red Line Snowmobile oil at my local auto parts house.

Oh man...here we go again...

Refer to indydans thread on this..if a Guy that makes sick custom cranks says not to run synthetic oil....I wouldn't either...

Castrol 2t..Phillips injex and castrol sea/snow is he only oil ill ever touch...

Dan wont warranty his cranks if synthetic is used ;)

Sean, you should just get Dan's password and sign in as him since you only have his opinion on this.
THe only engines i have had die were running non-synthetic oil. I have never had a two stroke bike or snowmobile die from running synthetic. There are other factors that killed the engines Dan saw.

I know of several 900's with stock cranks with over 4000 miles on them running amsoil.

Several of us on here have several thousand miles on 900's running polaris factory oil which Dan says is crap. When I opened my engine that had only run polaris gold it looked like new inside.

open one up after 2000 miles running conventional oil and check out all the carbon build up inside. No thank you.

4200+ miles and going strong on my 06 700. Same crank, just smaller top end.

Polaris VES Gold for all 4200. :)

Enough said right there. There is no problem with synthetic oil. I would not run anything else in a 900. Dan disagrees, but I feel there were other factors that killed the engines such as improper storage, engine modifications, etc...

ves gold in MY 900 since new 2200mi, motor internals are like new!! 150 psi compression, can go about 800mi+ between exh valve cleanings, havent fogged it for the last 2 summers instead i start the sled for 5min twice a month EVERY month!

polaris blue in my 96 xcr 600 triple pipes since new, (yet another poo motor known for eating cranks) went 5500 mi before i rebuilt it, didnt need rebuilt just did it for good measure, and because i had the extra $ lol. that motor was also spotless in side, still had 128 psi on all three original piston n ring sets! the oil pump setting on it was slightly increased at about 2000mi

just my 2 pennies, take it as you will!

lost my crank in my 900 last year at 1300miles, and had been running amsoil intercepter in it up until that point. when i got the crank out there was small amounts of surface rust that was on the bearing surfaces. sled had always been stored indoors when not out riding. this is NOT at ALL what im saying caused the crank to fail in my sled. but after having indydan build my bottom end, i figured that since he is the one that built it, and he is not recomending synthetic, i decided to switch back to injex that i had been running in my older sleds.
we have a couple 98 670 summits that we have always ran Injex, they have over 10,000mi on the stock cranks, and they still look perfect.
that being said, i know lots of people around here that i ride with that have had great luck running synthetic oil in there sleds.

What is your summer time storage procedure? Do you start your sled and run it up to temp over the summer or shut it off in the spring and not touch it till fall. You are in a much higher humidity area than some of us in MT and CO. Wonder if that is what caused the rust. I had one fail from rusted bearings that I was running conventional oil in, but it had sat a couple years without being started.

Followed the dealer rec's and ran VES for the first gallon, then Amsoil Interceptor no problems 4500. Fogged it and let it sit all summer.!!

i always start my sleds atleast once a month. let them get to operating temp, then run them on the stand for a while. dont like letting them sit for that many months with out running them.
