What are the Quick Drive Belt Do's and Don'ts

My new AXYS RMK is the first sled I've had with a belt drive. What are the do's and don'ts of it?
 
I put about 100 fairly easy miles on mine, then let it rip, bout 800 miles on it now, no problems at all. This is a 14 pro but same deal. Also i have hrp console vents and keep that area cooler.

i bought a 13(first year) new and drove it like i stole it, or like a rental with full coverage, from the first pull of the motor, i never took it easy or broke it in like "they" say to do. i didnt put miles on it easy then rode. i absolutely never cared for anything at all. and not a damn think broke, squeaked, bent, vibrated, growled or blew in 3500 miles. i never even changed the drive belt for that matter. i set belt deflection twice in 3500 miles and rode. i didnt check the qd bolts or anything, i didnt carry a spare qd or drive belt and never needed to. so what you ask are the in s and outs, you ask a 100 people and your going to get 101 diff answers. i treated it as bad as i could and it never let me down once. i didnt break the drive shaft and i purposely didnt put on the collar, i didnt add oil or up the oil pump and never blew that POS polaris motor lol so in my eyes the ins and outs are ride like you stole it and dont make it a garage queen
 
Same here..13 pro and didn't have the option of easy break in miles as there was 3' of pow the first ride out. Wide open from new and never had a QD belt issue and last season was on boost. I think the factors that lead to belt and bolt failures are in the luck of getting a tight tolerance fit on the splines. I upgraded to the 14 belt this summer and changed all four bearings (jack shaft and driveshaft) as preventative maintenance, but they were all in great condition. I will keep the 13 QD belt as a spare.
 
Well my '13 stripped teeth off of the belt because I rode it like I wanted to, ie; hard in the powder. Lasted 150 miles. I broke the second one in and it went 1000 miles before I sold the sled. The '14 and up belt is tougher than the '13 version. I did about 60 miles gently and then rode it like I stole it for 1200 miles with no problem.


I think they do not like sustained high speeds. I have a trail ride planned for next weekend to put a bunch of 30 mph time on it. I didn't carry a spare last year and wont this year either.


They say full throttle landings when jumping are hard on it. I don't jump much but I ride the snot out of it in the trees. Reliable as any chain drive I ever had and better than my diamond drive LOL.
 
From my experiences and others that I have been around.....

-go easy on it at the beginning of every ride or anytime that it cools completely down so that the material has a chance to warm up before being stressed.
-be somewhat nice for the first few miles anytime you're running a brand new belt. Referring to a consistent load. Smooth throttle and no harsh impacts under power.
-store new belts in original shape.
-maintain proper track tension. If your track ratchets, you're putting inconsistent stressful loads on the qd belt.
 
I'll add one piece of info you may not know. These belts do "break-in", regardless to how you decide to drive it. During that time frame (30-100 miles) the belt will "shed" this white, waxy coating. It will get on anything around it but it can just be washed off. Eric

You can hear the new belt too. It goes away. Or maybe I just start having more fun and don't notice anymore.

This is a great heads up to all those that may see a sled of yours in the classifieds section.
 
Turned up the oiler is all I did. Then proceeded just like this. Zero f+cks were given by me.
 
It comes down to Polaris. How it was assembled, if the employee doing it gave a cheet, and where in China they got the parts from.
My buddy beats his sleds, he went through 5 warranty engines in one year on two sleds. The last one his wife was riding it easy and it imploded, I watched it.
He now has 3000 miles on his 13 Pro with not one warranty claim. Not one breakdown. My other bud's wife has a 14 Pro, at 350 miles the crank seals went and required a rebuild.

It means go ride the **** out of it and have a blast! Givver my friend! The joy of having sleds like these that can handle some abuse is amazing! Nothing bad meant by it at all...
 
Be lucky enough to buy a sled that is built to specs. If not make sure you carry a couple of spare belts because you will be changing it often. It seems they either have lots of problems or none at all and it doesn't really matter how you ride it.
