What are the boundaries for Wilderness at Baker?

We had an amazing ride at Baker yesterday. Deep, deep snow and great visibility. We were up higher than about anyone else and I want to make sure in the future that we don't go into the wilderness. What are the boundaries and how do you figure out where they are when you are up top. We have GPS.

Props to MM for wanting to follow the rules! Kordero is correct. The boundary is a triangle shape, with the point ending at the crater (not the summit). Unfortunately, there isn't a nice flat spot up there to park if you ride to the rim, so sledders often cross the boundary to park and turn around. This has been noted by many uptight climbers and skiers in the past: http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=20987.0
On a separate note, the Easton glacier is really broken up with crevasses. If you ride up there, be aware that the snow bridges you are traveling on can be very thin, so be very careful where you stop and walk. Rumor has it that there are snomos that have fallen into cracks up there and have never been recovered.

Ya, the glacier freaks me out. Something about being eaten by a mountain and shat out 2000 years later into the river is un-appealing. We only ride up there when the vis is good. We keep a good interval, run parallel tracks and keep moving but if you hit a thin spot on a wide gap on a 500lb sled you are going in. I haven't figured out a way to rope up on sleds either. :face-icon-small-win Is there a way to download that map from mapsource into my Rino 650?

I read that article written by the ski touring guy. Right, wrong or whatever the author is an arrogant douche. Would love to use him for traction sometime.

Man, so we get that little pizza slice of terrain and the skiers etc get like 85% of the mountain all to themselves and they complain about somebody roaming over the "line". WTF? I also like the hate face I get whenever I pass skiers on the way up or down the trail even though I slow down to a crawl and move all the way to the edge of the trail to pass them.

Sad for sure a small piece. I have seen the look on a few Skiers and Snow shoe folks and I want to slap them for there contempt, but don't categorically judge all, there are great people who don't mind sharing public land, and moreover not afraid to help out when emergency's arise. ( Remember Stephanie in the water fall ? ) Glad you are courteous on the trail as it is important to keep a good image regardless what the minority thinks. I may have been close to the boundary today, Baker is stomped out and getting icy, needs snow.
