What anitvirus to use?

Does anyone have advice on a free online antivirus download?

Ad-Aware is the only one I know of. I have done a search, but want advice on what to use.

EDIT: for the dirty minded this is FOR MY COMPUTER

I am not computer literate at all, but I absolutely HATED McAfee

I use Norton now.

#1 Dont use Norton or McAffee
#2 This IS one case where you get what you pay for. Dont use a free AV.
#3 PM me if you want, I'll give some specifics
#4 I am an internet security consultant with clients all over the US. [in case you wanted credentials]

x2 free sucks

....use a Mac? (Or any *nix variant)

Sorry, had to throw that in there.

I've heard good things about Avast.... never used any antivirus software outside of work, and there it's usually fighting with the computer to let go of it (norton). Webroot likes to hog up system resources too.

I had numerous issues with both Macafee and Norton since then I've used Avast and haven't had a single issue. However it might just not have popped up yet but it's been 2 years and counting w/no issues.

OK, here it is: scan. Download it and run it.
This will scan and detect just how well your AV program is. It will remove some bugs but not all....you have to purchase a license to have it remove everything. Not my doings, but thats just how it goes.

If anyone want to purchase AV after all this, PM me. If you get it through me, you get free support by me. Try that with Norton.

Nice!! Thanks Opus I will deffinately do it on my home computer when I get home in 2 weeks. I've been wondering just how good Avast has done for me so it will be a good test.

I have used Avast(free home edition) for about 5 years now and never had a virus(although I am a computer geek). If you know how to browse safely you can eliminate your chances of getting a virus by ten-fold. For spyware I have had great results with Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Terminator.

Norton and McAfee are complete system hogs and I refuse to install them on any of my computers. Although I do like Norton SystemWorks.

Yeah, Norton does take up a buncha space downloading updates, thinking to get rid of it sometime. Downloading opus' program now.
