I agree completly with CATSLEDMAN1. When I was a kid in the 70's my dad raced every weekend and never drove more than 100 miles to do it. Now if I want to enter any kind of sled race I have to drive at least 300 miles and am always out classed by racers with big $$ backing. I don't begrudge them for having what I wish I had but I don't race much because of the money involved in making enough races per year to become competitive. My income in comparision to my dad's income back then is six times more and yet I can never seem to make it work without a second mortgage. More local grass roots races is the key to a revival of snowmachine racing. Make it fun for every racer and the fans and people will come out and race or watch just for the fun. The best racers will rise to the top and have plenty of exposure along the way to get the sponsorship they need to keep moving up.
We need to all get out and encourage our clubs and local dealers to put the time and effort into coming up with a race of some kind as many weekends as posible. We are at one advantage over the guys from the old erra and that is that now we can snowcross, cross country, hill cross and hillclimb. With that many possiblities the issue could become choosing which event you want to enter rather than if you can.
Just my two cents but as a life long sled junkie and wanabe full time racer I would do my part.
