west mt/mccall ride reports?

I rode west mountain yesterday and it was muddy/icy in the morning out of the parking lot for the first few miles then not to bad for not being groomed up to the warming hut. I would imagine that its going to get pretty beat up with a lot of people wanting to get out. When you get off trail its heavy and ice layered and it takes you where it wants to.

Yesterday we rode on a 1.5 - 2 inch crust, a b*tch when you got your ski under it. Today we didn't ride because of the rain. Went to Francis and to Brundage today. Some guys came back from Goose lake and said it was raining so we bailed. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day to ride!

Mccall

The snow was hard and only about 4 inches up top. The rain yesterday really hardened it up. I went off a drop of about only 10 feet and broke both track tensions/adjusters. Luckly found both bolts and got it back together and limped out. Still had half of the adjustment backet still mounted to both sides. Wow the rain really made for a hard base.

We rode out of tamarack on west mtn and it sucked.....(beautiful weather and great friends so it was fun but the sledding was terrible) had several in our group drop under the crust and scorpion ( luckily nobody got injured ). If you got a ski below the crust layer or dropped your front end completely under it was an instant stop. If this doesn't bond it's gonna be a death trap when we get some snow. It was settling aggresively under sled weight. The crust is super solid and pretty thin which is very bad. It's clouded up today and looks like a little bit is getting done from my view of west mtn.

The snow yesterday was way better than on thursday or friday. Went just about everywhere I normally do, but just gotta watch out for logs. All in all I had fun, maybe have some pics a lil later.
